I think some people spend more time building (constantly adding anything they can find and/or constantly changing things all around) and trying to advertise their forums for countless hours instead of stopping to take the time to interact with their community and enjoy their forum.. Usually these are the sorts of forum owners who will close their forums with the slightest drop of activity (but not always).

Do you do this?

I know plenty of people who spend more time building boards that never open then actually running anything. It's hilarious but at the same time quite sad to see.



I don't do any of this as balance the two as you need to do both equally to have a good board that you actually enjoy.

I used to do it that way, but now I am trying to find a nice balance between the two. Both promoting and posting. I do find people more often than not doing more advertising then posting, and that is definetly something that does not make me want to join a forum. A person should work on updating topics, replying to requests, that kind of thing, instead of forever running to promotion forums and trying to update their stats.

That whole industry has died. Its peak was back at Hireem days, but now its gone.



I dont really think anyone should start them anymore, no point.



This is 2010, maybe there will be a huge influx in forums about underpants??

I don't think he was talking about advertising forums in general, I think he was talking about forums as a whole, no matter what genere it was. And forums about underpants? That'd be an interesting site to check out!

What, advert forums? There is lots of other different ways to advertise than just posting a link on a forum..

There're probably more ways to promote now than there were, say, ten years ago! Wouldn't you agree?

Neither did I! Ten years ago I didn't even know what a forum was!



But even so, I would still say that there are a lot more ways to promote now then there were back then.
