Age of Consent

Dragon of Darkness said:
kids'll have had sex ed anyway.

Well if there were no laws, then an intelligent adult could manipulate a child into consenting into having sex.

Without pedophiles afraid of going to jail, the world will be a worse place to live in.

Yeah good point. But still, even though there are laws, it doesn't stop some people from manipulating children into having sex.

True but if the laws save at least one child from being victimized then its worth it.

Sure two 13 years could have sex and I doubt anything would happen happen to them legally. <-- I would rather that happen than a creepy 40-year-old manipulating children into having sex. They need to be punished.

16 seems fine, not gonna stop anyone older

18 is the law here. Better than 16 in my opinion.

Why's that?

The age of consent where I am is 16.

It's 15 where I live although the average age for actually losing your virginity is 19 I think.

I think 15 is fine, it's the same age you get to drive your moped so yeah.

And I thought it was 18 for all states in the US 0.0 that's what I've been told.

Because I feel that people arent adults until the are at least 18. Adults should participate in adult activities.

I know I lost mine at 17 so that kind of makes me a hypocrite but everyone doesnt have to do the same things Ive done.

So if the age of consent is eighteen and two sixteen year olds consent and have sex, what can the law do? Like what would be the penalty.

I've just turned seventeen, and I'm not sure what besides experience separates me from the rest of the adult population. Sure I'm in high school and my frontal lobe isn't fully developed, but I don't think the law has any business in this aspect of my life if I'm seventeen and my girl is seventeen. I don't think the state needs to be poking around there.

You will probably be a senior in high school with a baby on the way like I was.

As long as both are under aged it is not illegal. It's only illegal if one is under aged. The law is mainly to protect the younger person.

I've heard that around here. The consent age is 16. But even if that was true. I could never bring myself to date a girl that young. I'd feel like I was being a perverted old man or something. And looking at that site confirmed for me that it is 16 for consent.

last time I checked, where I come from age of consent is 14. which, by the way, is GROSS! no wonder so many teens are becoming moms...

They changed the age in Canada (link) http://www.cbc.ca/canada/story/2008/05/01/crime-bill.html

It is now illegal for adults in Canada to have sex with a partner under the age of 16, one of the new provisions of the Tories' violent crime law.

The Tackling Violent Crime Act raises the legal age of sexual consent in Canada to 16 from 14, the first time it has been raised since 1892.
