2012 DA14 Asteroid to make closest flyby in history!

February 9, 2013 – SPACE – Talk about too close for comfort. In a rare cosmic encounter, an asteroid will buzz Earth next week, missing our planet by a mere 17,200 miles (27,700 kilometers). Designated 2012 DA14, the space rock is approximately 150 feet (45 meters) across, and astronomers are certain it will zip harmlessly past our planet on February 15—but not before making history. It will pass within the orbits of many communications satellites, making it the closest flyby on record...

no doubt all the end of the world doomsdayers will have something new to focus on.

I think it is cool, I wonder if it will be visable at all.

This has nothing to do with doomsdayers but rather a scientific fact based on measurements...

Which is quite a lot at that speed

That's true, but the doomsdayers will still say it's the end of the world and overreact to it. This is actually more of a reasonable thing to doomsday though compared to the Mayan crap and the other wrong predictions.

Actually not a lot since it will be passing us around the orbit of the Earth Communication Satellites...
Anything that is farther than an hour's walk away, is a lot.
