I dislike this features, it discourages activity on your site. Last time I used it on one of my sites, I came online to just check and see a pile of private-messages of disabling moderator approval.

I've had it happen before, I emailed the forum owner and let them know that it is a huge turn off and it makes me not want to post because it's annoying. I really don't like when staff have to approve every post you make, it gets old fast.
I hate this kind of feature in a forum. Once I post and realize that my post has to be looked at by a moderator or administrator. Its a huge turn off and doesn't make me want to be active on that forum. In fact, I leave immediately,abandon the registered account, and never go back to that forum.
It is very annoying having to wait to see your post but I do understand that sometimes admins have to much spam to deal with, that said in my experience if you are using a quality forum software configured correctly you should not need to moderate your new users.
Post approval is annoying as hell. If you require it for all members all the time, you're not gonna get very many members. Some users need it, temporarily. I got it once for like 1 hour because I had double-posted a couple of times.
