Have you ever seen a banned member come back with a vengeance?  

What types of things have you seen disgruntled people do in reaction to being banned from a forum?

I haven't banned many so I never had a ban cause any trouble as it was clear they were in the wrong and there was no doubt that would inspire others to stand up for them or give the banned member any space to argue their ban.

Sometimes with other people, I seen banned members spam up the board or crack an account to do damage via the cracked staff account's mod tools.

I suppose my lack of trouble with this is due to my insistence I do everything in my power to work out an issue rather then ban and only banned as a last resort when all attempts to reconcile the issues the user had have failed.

I used to mod a forum a few months ago where we banned a member,they came back, we banned that one, then another account with endless porn. All at the same time they were begging to be allowed back.

Nope, once I see porn posted on a forum you can move your butt somewhere else. As much as I or anyone else may like porn it's more appropriate that we choose what we want to see/watch instead of getting it selected for us and posted in a forum.

As far as my own board, no. OTOH, while I was cooling my heels, serving a 2-week ban over at We Are The Walking Dead back in late June, I honestly have to admit that I seriously considered napalming everything I could get my hands on over there, forum wise....thankfully, I decided against it, but to this day - as I've stated elsewhere - I still have zero respect for the admins over there.

This forum only has 2 banned members at the moment and both of them actually wanted to be banned.  Some people are aware of their own weaknesses and ask to be banned so they wont be tempted to come back and cause more trouble.  I can respect that.

Other banned members have demanded to have their account and all their posts be deleted.  I always comply with these requests because it makes them happy and will make them go away once and for all.  I don't really care about numbers anyway.  The statistics will eventually get back to where they were and we'll make up for the lost posts in time.

I have seen people threaten to damage our reputation through malicious gossip and preaching unfairness to all.  In my experiences, any publicity is good publicity.  People will be interested to check out the forum that the disgruntled ex-member is talking about, maybe even join up to see if the forum lives up to the hype.  

In the end, the best thing for a banned member to do move on, maybe find a new forum and start over.  Anything else is a waste of their time.

If I get banned, its most likely deserved. So, I don't seek revenge. But on many forums i've owned and staffed on, I see banned members plea for return only to get disgruntled and then start flaming and threatening.

Yes. Lot's of dupes and spamming/trolling. You just do what you need to do to get rid of the issue and keep the community safe and welcoming for everyone.

Back in 2013, there was this one user (I'm leaving the usernames anonymous) who always caused so much trouble in a forum I was once apart of, was arguing again, this time with the forum admin that ran the forum about the admins constant bragging about his PC, its specs and how well it ran games (honestly, it was pretty damn annoying because he did it nonstop). The user who started the argument was banned the next day, but many hours later, he bypassed his ban and proceeded to talk shit and harass not just the admin, but other forum members as well. I was one of his targets when I said that perhaps the forum would be a little bit more peaceful without him on the forum. He bypassed his ban 3 times in the same day because he said he wasn't gonna leave until the admin tells him that he was right about what they were arguing about the previous day. This guy raised so much tension towards other forum members and it was annoying and we were all glad when he left for good.

Here's to hoping that we don't see him again...

I knew a banned member that came back with revenge. He hacked the forum by stealing passwords. The staff's mainly. He used a specific hack program called Havij and was able to get the administrator's pass word where he hacked and deleted the forum. It looks exactly like this.

Let us just say that he and the administrator were a bit too personal and he wanted to see her ruined. He hacked her forum once, twice was a second forum she was working on. Havij is an automated SQL Injection tool that helps penetration testers to find and exploit SQL Injection vulnerabilities on a web page.

Havij can take advantage of a vulnerable web application. By using this software user can perform back-end database fingerprint, retrieve DBMS users and password hashes, dump tables and columns, fetching data from the database, running SQL statements and even accessing the underlying file system and executing commands on the operating system.

The power of Havij that makes it different from similar tools is its injection methods. The success rate is more than 95% at injecting vulnerable targets using Havij. The user friendly GUI (Graphical User Interface) of Havij and automated settings and detections makes it easy to use for everyone even amateur users.

So on and so forth. Very nice program and its free ware.

I suppose hackers do serve a purpose. They expose vulnerabilities and security holes. It's up the admin to keep things secure and make backups of everything so that the forum can be restored if anything happens. This forum has been hacked before and I turned it into a learning experience. I feel, since then, I am a more informed admin with security high up on my list of priorities.

I'm watching one unfold on another forum. The banned member came back in using another username and started a topic:

dont know whats happening here on the Forum / goodbye (enter original username)

The first line of the thread: have the gestapo taken over the forum or have you decided to just start coming down hard on the members.

The owner, Admin and staff are posting in there the reason he was banned. Other members are jumping on the 'bandwagon' too adding their two cents. It boggles my mind that this is 1) going on on the open board and not in private. 2) they are allowing it to happen. 3) why if this member is banned did they not delete this thread and ban the member again.

Tried to go back and patch things up w/the admins over at WATWD...it ended up basically devolving into me napalming every bridge I had left over there and resulted in me getting a perma-ban...oh, well.
