Halloween is near long approaching once again in October, I figured we could start a topic to discuss some of the best horror games around. From the past to the present, what do you consider to be the best horror games out there? Personally, for me, Silent Hill 2 is a big front runner, but I know games like Resident Evil 4, Amnesia, System Shock, Eternal Darkness, the first 2 Dead Space games, and so on.

But, what should be regarded as the best of all time? What do you guys think?

I haven't played any horror games but my friend play some Doom game series and i was very scared about the game play.

Especially at night it can be scary and lead to nightmares but other then that I personally love them!

Oh man.. It depends how scary you want to go, there's quite a few indie games with some serious jump scares! ?
Amnesia: The Dark Descent | Outlast 2 | SOMA

I don't really like jump scares, so they're probably not for me.. Personally the original Resident Evil 2 (1998) is my favourite, but I've played it so many times that it's no longer scary.. I did start playing the first Dead Space game on the PS3 recently though, and it looks like that could be a good option to play this Halloween for me!

I just typed in google “worlds most scariest game” and Dark Descent definitely came up ? ??
Along with Dead Space, Silent Hill but you’ve listed some on point games no doubt.

The Last of Us and Resident Evil series are truly the most terrifying games I have played.

Outlast according to me. I feel like running away is an integral part of horror, so while I enjoy games where I have to fight, Outlast was refreshing because you basically have to be a scaredy shitface the entire time.

I am not sure what my favourite horror game would be as I do like them quite a bit. One of my favourite genres. Although I came to it relatively late so have not played a lot of the classics. I really enjoyed Until Dawn for the whole campy 80s/90s horror movie vibes. Also enjoyed that you could mess up and characters would live or die based on your decisions. I have also enjoyed their follow up dark anthology games. Played Man of Medan and Little Hope in co-op with a friend. I also really enjoyed Outlast, whistleblower and Outlast 2. Little Nightmares is so good too! Played it this year finally. Don't Knock Twice was enjoyable too. There are some other indie horror games I enjoyed. I have also played and enjoyed Resident Evil 7 and a tiny bit of Village.

Does Dead Rising count as a horror video game? 🤔

Dead Space
Alien: Isolation
Phasmophobia

All games that know how to build good atmosphere and tension and don't have to resort to cheap jump scares all the time to get to the player.
