Well, occasionally there are users that sign up, that seem to off-the-wall or just odd.

I had a weird user called The Reaper sign up on my forum, searched through the forums and just left, without posting..

If this person signed up and hasn't posted yet, why are you saying this member seems to be off-the-wall or weird? What are you judging that on?

I don't have a time limit, it seems odd that the user didn't even post a introduction.

All I did was send a PM to user, asking them if they had any trouble navigating the forum and whatnot.

Plus said user had a avatar of the Grim Reaper giving the finger.

As the saying goes: don't judge a book by its cover and the forum version of this would be judging a person by their username and avatar/signature. Doing so means losing out on many potential great friends that you would never have if you judge people without knowing them first.

I think that is a lesson the creator of this topic should learn to be honest.

+1 for Bluezone777 and I couldn't have said it any better myself. Well done and great post!

Some people join up to see if there is anything that they can't see as a guest and perhaps he still didn't find anything worth replying to so he left. Not everyone who joins is going to post as it comes with the territory of owning a forum. It doesn't necessarily mean there is anything wrong with what you are doing. I would want people to do things because they want to and not because they feel like they have to. That's just me though.

Sorry, but you can't force every new member to do that. All forums suffer from members that come to it and either don't post or just lurk around. You just need to abide with it. And for that member you mentioned, it's not good to jump to conclusions like that unless the member actually does something before you make judgements of him.

Back on topic, I came across a weird member on the GMS (Game Maker Showcase) forum in 2006. His name was Pookasnooks who had a fetish with female anime characters (Pokemon being one of them) and made crappy games out of his fantasies. What's worse is that he attacked that forum and others by means of thoughtless spamming via proxy servers when he got banned for not getting his own way. The dumbest thing he has done was the fact that he worked on a Game Maker game where the enemies in it were representations of everyone he dislikes, starting off with most staff members of GMG (another Game Maker forum) like Muzzle, Scuba, Beanjo and then members of the GMS, including me (when I was Burai at the time). I'm so glad he's out of my sight after all these years and I hope by now he has realised what he did wrong and how much of a slaphead he was.

Well, there was this one user named Skillet, I've ran in to him a time or two.. I just live with him now.

You're calling this guy weird because he registered but has yet to post? That's pretty harsh. If I stumble across a forum I don't know that much about, I'll usually register and then, like your new member, take a look around the forum before even thinking of making an introduction thread. All members deserve an equal chance. Just because they register but don't post doesn't mean they aren't going to stick around. Has it ever dawned on you that perhaps the person could be just observing your site to see how you guys operate before deciding whether to jump in or not? Yes, first impressions are important, but community interaction is also important.
