Cold snap brings snow to Florida

The strong cold front and blast of winter that caused temperatures to plunge into the 30s in Central Florida this morning produced a rare sight a bit farther north in the Sunshine State.

Yes, it snowed in Florida.

Snow flurries were spotted in Jacksonville on Thursday afternoon. There was no accumulation, but a hard-freeze warning is in effect for tonight.

City Hall workers ran outside to see if they could catch a glimpse of the snow flurries they saw from their office windows in Jacksonville. (Bruce Lipsky, Associated Press)

The last time it snowed in Jacksonville was Dec. 26, 2010, according to weather.com. Before that, you'd have to go all the way back to 1995.

Weird weather going on all over. I guess we can blame climate change for this.

Why can't we get some snow up here in the Pacific Northwest already? Bah!

When it snows further down in southern Florida like it did in December of 1990 and the power company had rolling black outs the entire day then it is back to really weird weather again.
