Confederate flag?

The truth are you serious? That whole blog post was completely pathetic, put together by someone who obviously has a clear agenda, misconstrued all facts and overall made themselves look like a complete idiot.

[font=arial, helvetica, sans-serif]The second lie that I wish to address here is that slaves were mistreated in the Old South. Again, this is not true. In Colossians 4:1, the Apostle Paul wrote, Masters, give unto your servants that which is just and equal; knowing that ye also have a Master in heaven.[font=arial, helvetica, sans-serif] To say that slaves were mistreated in the Old South is to say that the most Christian group of people in the entire world, the so-called Bible Belt, mistreated their servants and violated the commandments of Jesus their Lord. Anyone who says this is an accuser of the brethren of Jesus Christ, which is not a very good position to take.

Seriously?

I'm sorry but this guy can't even seem to grasp the idea that all Christians aren't perfect. I'm not allowed to accuse anyone who believes in Jesus Christ of violating one of his commandments? (although the verse in question was written by Paul not Jesus)

I don't hate the flag, I shouldn't have said that.

But you claim that the flag stood for liberty and states rights? Slavery was the primary cause of the civil war, the southern states wanted states rights so they continue to violate human rights and keep slavery legal.

And to say that slavery in the United States was not related to race is just false. The vast majority of slaves were black, blacks did not have the right to vote, they were lynched in the south and a primary reason the south fought the civil war is they didn't believe blacks should have equal rights.

To say that slavery was on its way out anyway is also false, human workers worked in cotton fields for many decades after the civil war. The cotton gin itself was the primary cause of the revival of slavery. Tobacco was indeed on the way out as an industry for the employment of slaves.

Not really, the United States flag can be seen to stand for a lot of things I consider positive, progress, liberty, freedom, democracy along with a host of other things and the country the flag represents has done many wonderful things to go along with the terrible things it has done.

The confederacy existed during the civil war only. And the main issue at hand was slavery. The north was anti-slavery and the south was pro-slavery. Therefore I deduce that the flag of the confederacy really stands for nothing much more than slavery itself and slavery in that time and place was only of blacks and stemmed from racist views. I really don't think it's that farfetched and I'm curious as to why people think the confederate flag actually stands for something positive.

I mean, I don't care if you wave it around, but I'm sure as hell going to judge you for it. And displaying the flag tells me a lot about the kind of person you are (a person I wouldn't want to associate with).

The North issued the emancipation proclamation (this was a political ploy yes, but still reflects the differences) and just because slaves existed in the North doesn't mean that there weren't drastic differences in view on race and slavery that lead to the war itself.

[font=tahoma, helvetica, arial, sans-serif]It's a lost cause if you keep proclaiming and believing that the Civil War was all about/mainly about slavery, when it wasn't...

It was.

People fighting to keep their slaves? Are you serious?

Yes. They were fighting to retain their way of life. For many (and especially those with the power and money) their way of life depended on slavery.

[font=tahoma, helvetica, arial, sans-serif]
And as a matter of fact the North made their slaves fight in the war against the South, ain't that just funny, huh?

Yes, but to what extent? I would like to see sources. Escaped/freed slaves from the south definitely fought for the north.

The Civil War was about a lot of big issues, and slavery was the least of their concerns/problems...

Nope. Big issues like what?
