Nebulous is a fourteen-year-old boy who wanted to go to camp very much. His father promised him he could go if he saved up the money for it himself. So Nebulous worked hard at his paper route and saved up the forty dollars it cost to go to camp, and a little more besides. But just before camp was going to start, his father changed his mind. Some of his friends decided to go on a special fishing trip, and Nebulous's father was short of the money it would cost. So he told Nebulous to give him the money he had saved from the paper route. Nebulous didn't want to give up going to camp, so he thinks of refusing to give his father the money.

Should Nebulous refuse to give his father the money? Why or why not?

Nebulous should hang on to his money because he is gong to need it.
He has already learned the life skill of earning money for the things that he wants in life, a skill which his own father seems to have lacked in.
The father should be supporting Nebulous, not the other way around.

This was literally an essay question on my Ethics exam. Except we had to answer as Aristotle.

Imo Nebulous's dad is an ass. Since I can't say why Nebulous's dad has changed his mind I can't really judge too much on why he changed his mind, but his trying to take his son's money to go fishing is scummy to me. Nebulous should keep his money and his dad should fuck off.

Nebulous worked for it. So Nebulous should keep it.
If it was his fathers money then a different story.

Nebulous's father houses him, clothes him and feeds him. Nebulous's father can make it a life lesson on how things will be from the government when he grows up and has a job. And call it the cost for taking care of you. Is iy right? No.Can he do it? Yes.

Nebulous's dad changed his mind and went back on his promise because he is selfish, a liar and is willing to deprive his child of a worthwhile childhood experience and further teach him to be a liar who should lie his way through life to get ahead.

If he gives the money to him anyway, he's likely going to remember and resent his father for a long time not just because he couldn't go on the trip because he was lied to and basically robbed of the money and the experience that goes along with his trip. Not giving it to him might make his father resent his son for depriving him of his fishing trip even though he clearly doesn't deserve to go due to his horrible handling of money, his selfish and lying ways and his horrible parenting.

I say he has every right to refuse to give it to him as he has no right to the money as his father made a promise to him and he should stick to it. If he rips out of his hands anyway, then I hope he remember just what was done for his fishing trip to happen and perhaps his conscience will haunt him over what he did to his son.
