Do you follow expiration dates? Do you still eat something if it appears to be good still even if it is a couple days past the expiration date?

As a kid when I was with a youth group the camp leader usually made a deal with one of the supermarkets to be able to buy almost or just expired food for a very cheap price. No one ever got sick of it. So yes, if it's a couple of days after the expiration date I might still eat it. There's really no harm in doing so as long as you use common sense.

I always check the expiration dates even before I buy an item. If it's a few days past the expiration, I have no problem. It's when I find something weeks past the expiration date that I chuck it out.

'Expiration' Dates are such a misnomer in the U.S., at least, because many of those funny dates on our products here don't actually signify a Expiration Date, but a Sell-By Date, 'Best-By' Date, and other such vagueness. Generally I just use the common sense protocol - if it smells or looks funny, it's time to go - otherwise if I'm consuming something pleasantly after a date listed on the package, I don't have a problem. It's when milk starts looking like cottage cheese that you know it's time to let nature feast upon it.

I never used to have any problem with it, but I'm really weary with what I eat nowadays it's a struggle to eat anything even near the expiration date, even if it's perfectly fine. [sub]My paranoia has gotten way out of hand.[/sub] I have no place to be picky at the moment, so it's painfully annoying to feel this way!

it kinda falls into the realm of Common Sense, no?

Where do you buy that and does it also come with an expiration date?

I usually toss things past the expiration date. I'd continue to use it if I opened it a day or two before the expiration date.

Usually if it's more than a week and a half or so I throw it out, unless it smells/looks okay.

It's just common sense though, I still use milk after four days sometimes and it's fine. Other times it'd bad before the date.

It depends on what it is. Some thing, like dairy or meat, I'll listen to the expiration date more so than something like cereal.
