I like both of the open source ones (myBB and phpBB), but I must say I loved being admin of an IPB board. Even considered starting to make skins for that one.

I've grown to like MyBB since Off Topix made the switch to it a while back. It's very quick and simple to use. I love using it now.

SMF. QX Community was built with that software, btw what's good from it is that you can use modifications (especially with the paid subscription) such as an advanced reputation system, profile comments and more security options.

IP Board. The way it is designed is fantastic and many great forums that I know of use that software. My favorite free forum software would be MyBB because of it's simplicity.

+1 IPB and Xenforo are best best forum softwares rightnow and VBulletin 5 really sucks.
