How important is a Forum Games section in a community? Does it serve a purpose or just spam? Would you have one on your forum? How would you run it?

How important is a Forum Games section in a community?
On a scale of 1 - 10, I would rate this section a 1.
Does it serve a purpose or just spam?
Some members enjoy playing these games and it gives them a place to go when they're bored.
Would you have one on your forum?
If I was a forum owner, the answer would be no. Why? Some members only visit a forum to play games. They never post outside that forum. They play and leave.
How would you run it?
Limit the amount of forum games. New forum games have to be approved first and then posted by a staff member (which we do here). Post count should be turned off in this section (which we don't do here). I don't think it's fair members can up their post count by simply playing games when other members are making posts outside of the game section. Also hide the forum game section from showing up on recent posts on the main index page. If guests see nothing but forum games in recent posts, they're going to think that's all members do. Gives a bad impression to say the least.

They always seemed like a pointless activity meant to raise member posts and/or the forum's activity. I don't really see that much enjoyment out of things like counting, and because of that, I question the necessity of it all.

Some of it can be fun while other games aren't but that's true of games of any kind. I think the issue about post count is more about people allowing an silly number offer any sort of statement about a person that it really shouldn't be making. The only thing post count should illustrate is that you made posts and you made a few or a lot and that's about it. I never really cared about post count so I allowed any kind of games to be played with post count increasing. Your value to a community in my view was not measured by post count as that says nothing about you. The posts you make however do say a lot about you.

Forum Games are not important, nor do I think all forums need to have them. Originally, my forum didn't have any sort of forum games, but some of my members requested it, and it's actually pretty active. Forum games are primarily a time killer.

It's not. It's just one of the millions of useless things on a forum.

Does it serve a purpose or just spam?
Other than get the members to know each other. It's just spam.

Would you have one on your forum?
I would if the members asked. Only because I like to do as I am asked :p

How would you run it?
Post count disabled.
