Have you monetized your forum, do you make money from your forum? I have created 4 forums and two forums make money through Adsense. Well, the earnings are not much but they can help me maintain my forum running costs. When I create a site, I make sure it earns me some money, otherwise, there is no point in running the site.

Any website you create should have a monetization plan.

I give all my forums a year to establish a community.

If they pass, the next year is all about establishing revenue.

After that, it's about establishing profit.

Never made a dime off this community. I have a job IRL so this is just for fun.

I suppose I could tack on ads here and make enough money to (for example) buy me dinner once a month from a restaurant ...but is it really worth inconveniencing all the members here with intrusive ads every single day for that one meal I'll get? Nah..

Ads don't have to be intrusive. You can use 2-3 ad units per page and the users will not even notice your site has ads. However, you need to stay away from using popup/popunder as well as low quality ads.
I'd notice them! :P

I think monetizing a forum is hard especially if you use Google. Maybe just monetized the main home page/hub, but even then, you are "responsible" for all content posted and Google is very picky these days. I've personally never heard of any other ad network that is as good.

Yeah one rouge member could get you demonitized by posting some BS.

I don't earn a profit from any of my websites, including my forums. I do this all for fun, I have a full time job and do make some extra money on the side posting on forums so I feel that I don't need to earn money from my websites. Plus it's difficult to get money from a forum these days, blogs are different story though.

You can make money from posting on forums?

It's been many years since I last had my own forum and I've never had a forum busy enough to even think of making money from.

For a while I did make a small amount from a sponsor of my topsite list - but even that was donated to childrens charities.

Yep you can! It's a good way to earn a few extra bucks. :) There are communities that will pay their members for every thread and post and will allow you to pay out when you reach a certain limit.

Interesting. I actually just saw some threads on forumpromotion about posting on forum job vacancies. I might have to try that!!
