Forum Trolls

A Forum Troll is a person who posts outrageous message to provoke people to respond. The Forum Troll delights in sowing discord within a forum. A troll is someone who inspires flaming rhetoric, someone who is deliberately controvertial, baiting and pulling people into a flaming discussion.



My question is how does your forum deal with trolls?

My question is how does your forum deal with trolls?

A Troll or old Trog as we call them In Blighty Is also some-one who hits on new members by asking for their E Mail address telling them they do not trust the messaging system on the forum. They then E Mail nicely nicely to start with but after a while their true agenda begins to show. The E Mails start coming bad-mouthing every member they hate on the forum which Is all of them excapt for the Mods who's arsses they kiss on a daily basis. Even when you tell the old trog you are out all day and busy, you come home to find E Mails asking you where are you? All they want to do, Is have you as a captive audience to say 'Have you seen this post... Have you seen that'.

Best thing to do with these E mails Is forward them to the site owner so they know exactly what they have got going on behind the scenes. That Is why old trogs do not use the message system on forums.... they know the site owner will see them.

When they have no friends on their forum then they get desperate and troll other forums those members are on. Even more desperate, they will message the members there begging them to join their regular forum to post with them.. Sad, sad, sad losers

Every now and then I'd get the usual Halo fanboy who would troll on my COD forum. I simply remove his/her post or thread, and ban him.

my fave forum also has another use for the name 'troll'..............when you make a 2nd (or 3rd...or 4th....) account just to have some fun (non malicious) as no one knows who you are but everyone knows you are someone hiding behind a false name,(hope that makes sense)........ive seen a run on them where a thread sparks off everyone making them

......think ive been everything from doctor mccoy to luke skywalker to captain blackbeard to invisible ninja and countless others



thing is i always know who everyone else is

....my partner is a mod and she just does an ip check

another form of trolling on one of my forums is following someone on threads you post on and they post right afterwards, just to annoy you & block your post.



at times they will quote a post days or months old.







there are several terms of 'trolling' pending which forum your on.

Ban. Simple as that. Though since this is sure to arise from Nebulous or Brian, my forum gets two kinds of trolls; the regulars who are the community, and the trolls that try to fuck with the boards. The latter is the group I ban.

I go by usernames unless I know the person I'm referring to.



Because I'm sure Nebulous's actual name isn't Nebulous.

Payton is a little troll. Lets ban him.

Anyway, as with anyone who breaks rules, there should be warnings 1st, then a temp ban or moderator queue. If those opportunities to change aren't taken advantage of then a long term or permanent ban might need to be implemented.

I've always found foreign trolls entertaining, TBH. Trolls you know, they get boring pretty fast. And the worst trolls are those who go around trolling others by calling them trolls..



Truth of the matter is that we all have some troll in us. Sad fact is that there are those who would never dream of admitting it about themselves.



I'm generally a happy troll.. I'll tease folks I like or push their buttons to get them going off on a topic I know they like to rant on. But I'll back away if they can't read me as having fun.



then I leave them alone and they decide I don't like them, which isn't the case at all - I guess I just can't be bothered trying to figure folks out.

It depends on the kind of troll, I suppose. My board doesn't have a problem with trolls, but we've had a few. If the user makes it clear that they've joined for no other reason than to harass and troll members, we ban them on the spot- no tolerance for that sort of thing at all.



Just a month or so ago we actually had a member post in their intro thread something along the lines of LOL I'M A TROLL. They posted a few topics in our spam section and were never really heard from again. That sort of troll is harmless, really. I don't much mind the ones who are funny really, but we don't tolerate people joining to insult members.

agreed, there is a troll inside all of us, some just refuse to admit it, this troll loves Bailey's ice cream & sunflowers!

I'f like a troll as a pet as well, the things we could do to them!

We should have trolls as pets, just imagine what we could do to them!

I agree, there' a little troll in all of us..



I've known a few that were so big, you would need a ladder to see them!

this troll loves Baileys ice cream and sunflowers!

It use to be easy to find sig link friendly forums. Got banned on one forum with just a few posts. I posted an advert in the advert section on my 4 post. Many just posted in the advert section but cuz I also posted an intro I was toasted. Often the real trolls are the mods.
