Have you ever thought of giving up on your forums? Why did you feel that way?

(This is just a discussion question and has nothing to do with me so have no fear community!

Well with Headbangers Haven I could have given up so many times, but I havent. Now it's in its 7th year and is bigger than ever and still continuing to grow. So no, I don't believe in giving up.

I've honestly never given up on a forum before, but you see it a lot on free forum hosts. It's becoming kind of annoying on Zetaboards tbh, so I'm not active on a lot of new communities there any more.

Indeed...I've never really had a forum...well, not recently...but I never really gave up.

You see it a lot on Zetaboards and other free hosts...I usually have to think hard before joining a forum nowadays...

I've never owned a forum but can only tell you what I've observed. There are people who need to just give it up and they don't. They become hostile to staff and members when the count isn't up to where they want it or expect it to be. I truly believe that if a site owner doesn't believe in their own forum or shows negative attitude then it's time to let go. If you have to ask how to improve your forum then obviously you don't know yourself and it's time to give up and shut it down.

I agree with everything except this:

If you have to ask how to improve your forum then obviously you don't know yourself and it's time to give up and shut it down.

IMO an admin should ask the members of the forum how to improve the board. If you just do your own thing against the will of the members, then why would they stay? Also, you can't know everything from the beginning and it could be beneficial to ask some advice from more experienced administrators.
