Does your forum allow grave-Digging of old threads? (posting in threads that have been dead for a while)

I don't have a forum right now, but I always allowed it on my other forums. But I've gone to a couple forums recently where its not allowed.

So, I'm wondering if you guys allow it on your forum. Why/Why Not?

Nothing wrong with it in my opinion. I go and bump up old topics once in a while.

See I went to this one forum, and it didn't seem like it ever cleaned up old threads (deleted/move to a trash forum) and I made a suggestion that

A.) They either let people post in old threads

or

B.) Delete the old threads so new can be made, and there isn't 100 copies of one thread.

And they honestly didn't see any sense in that.

I left the forum though, it was too messy and I couldn't do with it.

I agree provided the post used to bump it adds to the discussion and it's not a time specific topic such as a birthday or post count milestone thread or something like that.

I bump threads on my forum even if they 3 years old. Never been a problem for me.

Wow never really thought about that, but IMO who cares. Why is there a time limit on topics anyways. Oh yeah, and I also agree with Bluezone777, some topics shouldn't get bumped, but for the most part a good topic should never die.

I don't allow digging up of old announcements, intros, feedback or whatever, but any other topic of discussion that's not important is fine with me. Personally, I hate the no bumping old threads rule. Or the Necro rule as some boards call it.

I hate it when you can't gravedig, it's so unfair and just wastes space. One time someone told me that it was forum ettiquette to not bump old topics. I think gravedigging is a good thing, it is actually very well respected on my forums. Heck in the rules I say that gravedigging is allowed and very well respected and that you should gravedig!

Who ever told you its not forum ettiquette has something wrong with them o.0 Personally I think its fine. Means they were interested enough to go and dig for it.

I see no point in not allowing gravedigging. If a thread gets really old though (particularly old news articles) I lock them and move them to a designated board at the bottom of the site so old threads don't just take up space.

i always preferred bumping instead of someone making a thread that already exsists

How ironic of me to grave dig this year and a half old topic about grave digging.

Ha, ha, good thing that's not frowned upon here. Imagine breaking a rule on your own forum if this were to be a rule!

The only time I find grave digging to be a problem is when someone tries to restart an argument. Other than that there's nothing wrong with posting in old topics.

I don't allow anyone on my forum posting in threads that have been inactive for six months or more.
