Robbers who threatened a shopkeeper with a gun and a meat cleaver as he held his baby daughter in his arms were beneath contempt, police have said.

Two masked men entered Gough News on Windsor Road, Bury, on Tuesday.

The robbers held a cocked gun to the shopkeeper's head - demanding money from the till - as he held his 15-month-old daughter in his arms.

They also threatened his wife, who was behind the counter, before stealing cash from the till and cigarettes.

'Traumatic memories'

Greater Manchester Police said the robbery on Tuesday left the victims extremely shaken but all three were physically unharmed.

Det Con Stephen Gaskell, of Bury CID, said: To threaten a man while he held a young child in his arms is beneath contempt.

The only saving grace is that she will be too young to remember this. However, her parents will not be so lucky - it will have left an indelible impression on them.

He added: These robbers are clearly desperate and don't shy away from using or threatening real violence.

I don't know why this is such a special case. All robbers are desperate to begin with, whose gonna let some baby get in their way? It's not like they threatened the baby either.

Wait, so a man robbed a store with a gun, and had a baby in his arms. And in anytime during that robbery, he could have turned the gun upon the shopkeeper's daughter and shot her, and that's not special case?

It was the shopkeeper's baby, Dragon, not the robber's.

Yeah, the fact that they didn't even do as much as threaten the baby, if anything, makes them civilized robbers..What are they supposed to do, see the dude holding a baby, and just quit?

Why can't they just get a job like the rest of us?

That would be the civilised thing to do!

I'm not in any way insisting that robbing a store is the right thing to do. But under the circumstances they were in, i think the robbers reacted very well. They didn't threaten the baby or anything of the sort. I don't know why the police are calling them out from every other day criminals.
