How can I effectively Twitter?

Follow tons and tons of random people and hope they're nice enough to follow you back. Then you'll reach the level of 'Twitter Freak- Awesome Guy'

I don't think following lots of random people will help you out. Best to try to find a few followers genuinely interested in what you have to say rather than a hoard of followers who are just playing the numbers game. Other than that, I don't really know.

Were you trying to be funny and/or up your post count there? That was rude. If you're going to say something please be constructive. That's not cool and you're not going to be taken seriously here if you act like that, especially if it's for some immature reason.

As for your question netsavy, I was never really into Twitter myself (I've made multiple accounts and have been very unsuccessful each time in gaining much interest) but, I believe the answer is very simple. People use Twitter to provide updates on what's currently going on/about to be going on in their lives. If you're going to a dinner party, tweet about it. If you're at a theme park with your cousin, tweet about it. If you're watching TV and are supar BORRED, tweet about it.

I've always looked at it as a service designed with stalkers in mind. Now they've made it so you can add a location to your tweets. Yay, even more stalker-friendly.

I don't know if that was a joke or not but please avoid posting like this in the future. We will not tolerate it and we expect our members to treat each other with respect.

Indeed it does get followers, as OTHER random people will follow you via the people you follow. But will they care about/read your tweets? No. But the ONE Pro of this is that it makes you look more popular on Twitter, which is EXACTLY what you want.

Net, I presume you want Everyone you can get to follow you?

Hook up your Twitter with Facebook, people may follow you via that. Also give others an incentive to following you. Tell them you have weekly contest posts and they win..money? Posts? Who knows what.

There are plenty of ideas out there.

I don't see the point in signing up to websites like Twitter for the sole purpose of gaining popularity. Internet fame is incredibly over-rated and comes with no benefits, other than a bunch of lifeless people obsessing over you and seeking out your personal information. Then of course, all of your haters will want to kill you, and your email inbox will be jam-packed with death threats, among other things, on a daily basis.

If that's what you want, I think you need to find a hobby or go outside for once and get some fresh air.
