The start-up cost for my forums is under $10. I have an unlimited hosting package and when I want to launch a new website, including a forum., I do not have to spend additional money on hosting. I also use open-source forum software, therefore, I have zero expenses, my only expense is the money I spend on a domain. I also sometimes hire posters.

I spend nearly $200 a month on a VPS. It's big. I have a lot of websites on it.

I spend $20 a year per domain name. I have about 30 domains registered.

All forums use XenForo, so there is that cost, too.

My blogging efforts are paying for it all and still giving me some profit.

It took hard work to get there, though.

Sounds like you spend A LOT of money on your online projects

I do but with a forum this size, I'd imagine you do to?

Not really. The XF license, themes & add-ons I use are already paid for and I am probably not going to renew them for a while unless a major shakeup in the software happens. So that just leaves me with hosting and domain renewal. Believe it or not we are on a shared hosting plan (with Hawk Host) and my hosting works out to about $2 a month (I paid $50 for 2 years of hosting so I wont have to pay another $50 until mid 2024). Domain renewal is about $30 per year as I own 3 domains (offtopix.com, offtopix.net and wober.net) they are around $10 each to renew each year through NameCheap.

Wow! That's pretty amazing!

If I just ran forums, I could probably get away with that. But some articles on my hiking blog go so viral in a matter of minutes after I share them on Facebook (my page is over 10K followers) that it has crashed my server and required me to upgrade.

CloudFlare has been my best investment though, and it's free!

Yeah HawkHost is great, been using them for years. This forum is the only thing I have going on with my hosting account so they can accommodate it without making me upgrade to a VPS. Maybe if we get super large then I'll have to make the switch.

Thats crazy but its good that your blog is successful!

Usually when I create articles about areas that fewer people visit or anything to do with waterfalls.
People like waterfalls? They're neat but after a few minutes of staring at one, I'm like... okay lets go. :P

I guess it depends on who is looking at them. :)

I can look at them for hours and take different videos and photos.

Some people are more wealthy than others.

I've seen people on welfare with a brand new $1400 iphone before. If you really want something you can move your money around and prioritize things to make it happen. For example if you ate nothing but top ramen and didn't eat out or have any fast food then you could throw more money at a forum.

It's quite surprising - people in New Zealand will plead poverty to the government while calling for welfare support with their $1500 iphones.

Well to be fair, having a good reliable phone is a necessity in this day and age. :P

NOT when it can be sold then they can get a cheaper phone and be left with enough for their hardship reason. If they're in extreme hardship as they say they are.
