What do you mean? I don't get it.Sometimes though, if you're a foruming 'newby' & are obsessed with a certain personality; then when you find a forum that has all of the best & newest "inside scoop" on that persona, you might pay whatever they're asking.![]()

Well.....I guess it's like if you're just going "ga-ga" over a particular TV or radio personality & someone forms a 'fan' forum covering all of the latest 'happenings' re: this certain person including frequent postings by the celebrity & wants to charge a monthly fee for membership to the forum. What do you mean? I don't get it.
Sounds like a good way to make money.Well.....I guess it's like if you're just going "ga-ga" over a particular TV or radio personality & someone forms a 'fan' forum covering all of the latest 'happenings' re: this certain person including frequent postings by the celebrity & wants to charge a monthly fee for membership to the forum.
Okay....clear as mud??![]()
For a little while.Sounds like a good way to make money.
It depends on what DIY I want to do. I don't mind it.Speaking solely from personal experience, I've used just about every "free" forum script, and many of the paid ones, and there just isn't a comparison. Some free ones have good features, and what not, but I simply found that paid ones just offer more IMO.
Cool. If it works for you, go for it!It depends on what DIY I want to do. I don't mind it.
I agree, Jason.I mean, what's the big deal if you use free? Well, it's definitely a lot cheaper and while you get what you pay for, that doesn't always translate into "junk".
Given how well some free forum platforms - *cough* Proboards *cough* - have become in terms of front-end usage and back-end support, paid forum platofrms like Xenforo are almost unnecessary these days.I mean, what's the big deal if you use free? Do you enjoy using it? I had a ProBoard back in like 2001, but was disappointed by the limited admin ability, and forced ads (which I paid money to remove). I only used them because I didn't know how to self-host. I quickly learned however and started out with phpBB (also free), but I hosted it on my own server. Good stuff!I agree, Jason.
My message board is free, it is a ProBoard.
A good idea IMO. I like paid forum scripts, but if you have a decent web server account, self-hosted, even with like phpBB, is much better than any "free" remotely hosted system. Its easy to install stuff like MyBB, phpBB etc. on cPanel, so I never bothered getting into ad supported stuff like ProBoards.
Yes agreed....The worst ad supported stuff is from Tapa Talk. There's way too many ads.
Paid stuff is great, but in certain situations, free works just as well for certain people.Given how well some free forum platforms - *cough* Proboards *cough* - have become in terms of front-end usage and back-end support, paid forum platofrms like Xenforo are almost unnecessary these days.
That said, you get what you pay for and if you're using a free platform, you will get whatever is available.
