it sucks to be rich

Wow. Poor rich people. Only able to be cast in movies as rich people? My god, the fucking audacity. That's awful, we should donate money to the- oh wait. Some people, especially people who aren't rich, have no idea how small a £2m house can be ? Fuck off. It doesn't matter how small it is, it's a 2 million pound house. More money than some people earn in a LIFETIME. People who just buy sandwiches and stuff tend not to understand that, when you buy something large like an island, it takes ages. ? Poor rich people, can't get land right away. Y'know it's the same for us poor people, right? If we buy a house we can't move in right away, we have to wait for payments to clear, move all the furniture and shit in, get the power, water etc. done.

Either this thing's completely satirical, in which case I've been trolled, or the author is a moron.

and don't forget that fact that they are always being ask for money.. donate to this, donate to that, sponsor this, sponsor that..

why can't poor people just leave them alone?

Seeing as it sucks as a comedic piece and also sucks as a serious piece suggests the author is a moron regardless of his goal in writing the article.

This is the impression I got after reading the header:

The shame … the discrimination … the anguish over having to fire domestic help to keep one's girlfriend happy. It's a daily trial

and all the effort in moving money around to avoid paying taxes, and hiring accountants and stuff... I tell ya, the poor have it easy, they don't have to worry about any of that stuff.

You have been trolled.

But did you see the linked article about nannies? That's pure awesome!

..and all the effort of living in gated communities and large estates and/or castles with expensive alarm systems and guards always worrying that they are going to be robbed. The poor indeed have it easy...

And with the price of fuel these days, do you people have any idea how much it costs to fill a yacht these day? Never mind marina fees and maintenance costs…

And then you have....

As reported this week, Super Bowl MVP Nebulous Flacco and the Baltimore Ravens have agreed to a six-year, $120.6 million contract making the star quarterback the highest-paid player in NFL history, earning an estimated $20.1 million per year. But being the “highest paid player” and earning the most after tax pay are two very different things.

By choosing to remain a Raven, Flacco is now set to pay a combined marginal income tax rate of 51.98 percent. This overwhelming tax rate is composed of the federal, Maryland, and Baltimore County income tax rate, as well as the Medicare tax. And that’s excluding his “jock tax” liability for away games – play the Patriots at Gillette Stadium, pay Massachusetts income tax on earnings for that game - and other taxes levied against him such as Maryland’s property tax.

I also wonder how much the Baltimore Ravens paid the NFL as a tax to fix the superbowl and buy themselves a win (with that last no holding call from the refs)...

Hey that looks like our tax rate!

(The highest rate, mind you.)

The cost of living in Maryland is quite high, especially in Baltimore County. Property tax, sales tax, income tax, all pretty high and designed to send the rich people packing.

The impression I got was that the city is trying to become Detroit on the Chesapeake.

Sounds about right. I've not been to Detroit personally, but Baltimore gets that reputation. If you watched The Wire you get all these images of empty row homes with people dealing drugs in them, which is not too far off from reality. And the true sign of decline is when you see that your population is starting to shrink. People are not coming to Baltimore, they are leaving...to places like Pennsylvania.

Chicago's growing. Atlanta is too. New York added nearly 60,000 new residents.

But not Baltimore.

At a time when cities across the country are gaining population and young people are flocking to urban centers, Baltimore remains stuck in a decades-long decline. According to estimates released Thursday by theU.S. Census Bureau, the city lost about 1,500 people from April 2010 to July 2011.

Only Cleveland and Detroit lost more population than Baltimore.

Sharon Clarke, 31, a native of the West Indies who moved to Baltimore about six months ago after living in New York and Atlanta for years, said she thinks the population decline in Baltimore is the result of a snowballing effect.

People don't want to live in degraded neighborhoods, and when they move out, the neighborhoods get worse, she said.
