What do you think of kids running forums? I personally think that the majority of forums run by kids are ones that don't understand that a lot of work goes into making a forum. Hell, I was one of those kids. I think they should wait until they're a little more mature to run a forum and just enjoy life for now.

I know that a lot of young people have short attention spans and not very much patience (but the same could be said about anyone really). They'll drop their forum as soon as they get bored or disappointed at the lack of people signing up & posting. Seems like they fail to realize that it can take years to build up an established community with regular members. But if they are running a forum on a free host and don't buy a domain, I suppose they didn't waste anything but time.

Exactly what I was going to say!

I started my forum when I was 12 years old, I have one moderator and one co-admin who was 14, look where we are 4 months later:

Our users have posted a total of 16020 messages
We have 221 registered users

Don't worry, I am 13 now :P Anyways, straight to my point, if I am just some kid that does understand a thing about a forum and I should just be enjoying life how the hell did I achieve the stats I quoted above. :P Just because someone is young, doesn't mean they won't know a thing about a forum, some may, some don't. It all depends on the person.

I think kids have a better chance at running a forum since they have more of a vast imagination (most kids xD ) and can generate better ideas for their forum.

I guess that is my view on this topic which rubs me the wrong way. :/

Unless the forum owner openly states his or her age, how would anyone know a forum was being run by a kid or an adult?

Over the years, I have been a member of several forums that have thrown in the towel. Guess what? Not one of them was being run by a kid. These were adults who lost interest and just gave up.

In my opinion, it's very unfair to judge a forum based on the age of the owner.

Age does not define wisdom. There are plenty of young people who act foolish but there is just as many adults who do the same. Wisdom is defined by how you carry yourself through life and the choices you make. Anyone of any age can make good or bad choices so I rather know what the other person thinks is and isn't a good thing to do with their forum and let that define their worth as an admin and leader of a community. If you let other things like age define the people you see run forums then you might just cheat yourself out of a good community or worse let yourself walk into one that makes you wish you never joined it in the first place.

Agreed, but then again, if there was entertainment value in it, did they even waste time? I ran a forum whenever I was eleven, and needless to say, it wasn't very popular. However, my writing matured a lot over the years because a lot of people would make fun of my "lol i iz nick mc and how r u" shit. I also think it helped shape a lot of who I was, for better or worse.

I was 14 when I first made a forum. That didn't work well, so I got rid of it a few weeks later.

What those people fail to realize is that in order to make a successful forum it needs about 2-3 (or even more) years. This is why those forums go down after a short lifespan.
