Ever been on a forum where a member thinks they know EVERYTHING.. Even when they are wrong?

Do they get on your nerves?

I try not to be like that, but I know I come off like it sometimes simply because I've been on the Web, and telnet before that, doing what I do since ... well... since before Al Gore invented it.

I don't know everything, and you'll notice that I stay out of a lot of topics, like current TV shows, hiphop music, and the latest trends in high fashion, but I know how to do research quickly and effectively and find accurate information that can be presented in an easy to understand way on serious topics. And in many cases, I've already done the background work which makes it very easy to post that information.

For instance, somebody on another forum spouted some nonsense about how the WW2 Holocaust wasn't as bad as some TV show said it was. My answer was no, it was worse then I pointed out that the Nazis didn't just kill Jews, and cited an article I did several years ago... http://themediadesk.com/newfiles2/holocaust.htm

It may have been a bit of overkill. But the topic warranted it.

Among the first imprisoned were the political enemies of the Nazis, Enemies of the German State. Namely the Communists and the Social Democrats. Then the SS branched out from there. Those who were socially undesirable as defined by the Nuremberg Laws and subsequent rulings.

Homosexual men were labeled with a pink triangle on their prison clothing. Many German men so identified were subjected to medical 'testing' to determine where the Aryan blood had gone wrong. Homosexual women of the 'Master Race' were treated somewhat differently because they could still be bred to produce Germans. Homosexuals of inferior races were simply killed outright or worked to death in mines or factories.

In the SS, today, we still have about one case of homosexuality a month. In a whole year, about eight to ten cases occur in the entire SS. I have now decided upon the following: in each case, these people will naturally be publicly degraded, expelled, and handed over to the courts. Following completion of the punishment imposed by the court, they will be sent, by my order, to a concentration camp, and they will be shot in the concentration camp, while attempting to escape. I will make that known by order to the unit to which the person so infected belonged. Thereby, I hope finally to have done with persons of this type in the SS, and the increasingly healthy blood which we are cultivating for Germany, will be kept pure.

Himmler

Reichsführer-SS, February 18, 1937

Jehovah's Witnesses were also targeted for imprisonment and death because they refused to join the German Army or register with the Party or to even salute the Fuehrer. By the 1939 outbreak of the war over six thousand Witnesses had been imprisoned. Another four to five thousand were sent to the camps during the conflict.

Their follow up comments were not pleasant.

But still. I try not be present myself as a know it all.

Its just that... I have....

Been There, Done That, and Am Writing The Book!

Yeah Ive ran into a few know-it-all's. There is a difference between someone providing their opinion and someone forcing their opinion down your throat thinking that nobody else in the world can be right at all.

Those types of people know everything about anything and everyone else is ignorant (in their eyes).

Oh, you mean like Rush Limbaugh and Hillary Clinton.

Be glad those two never produced offspring together.

yeah...quite a few times.......used to argue the toss with them........cba now........lifes to short to worry about such things, i leave it to others

I'm like that in debates most of the time. I think it's normal considering you're on a forum and not in a real life conversation, meaning you can actually take the time to look things up and think about your reply before posting it. If you're still saying something completely incorrect then I will correct you.

However people that can't accept that they're wrong even when the facts are right in front of them annoy me as well.

I've ran into people like them. There's so many of them I don't know who to believe

I've been on a couple of forums like this in the past, and it can get seriously annoying. People who give their opinions and then they try to tell you that you're wrong, or it could be a mixed thing of whether you're right or wrong. One half will think you're right, and then the other half will think you're wrong. I've also had such a situation happen to me before, and it confused me so I didn't know what to think, so I automatically let the subject drop.
