Lexus has unveiled the first real, working hoverboard.
After months where people expressed polite disbelief over preview videos of the device, the car giant has shown off a board powered by superconductors and magnets which can ride over a specially made magnetic track.

So you can’t ride it EVERYWHERE, in other words: it relies on liquid nitrogen-cooled superconductors and permanent magnets to generate enough magnetism to ‘levitate’ above a metal track.
The ‘smoke’ coming out of the side is super-cool liquid nitrogen, needed to make the superconductors work.

It’s not that different to various gadgets shown off in lab demos – and also quite difficult to ride, as even pro skateboarder Ross McGouran keeps falling off.
In one of Lexus’s videos, professional skateboarder Ross McGouran says, ‘I started skating when I was about 7 or 8, and this literally feels like i’m starting all over again.’
‘This has never been done before, there’s absolutely no friction underneath you at all.

‘I forget what I’m doing, I’m, actually floating on air.’
I'd like to try this! Would you?
