I scrapper Ubuntu 14.04 LTS because of wireless connectivity compatibility (I'm using a netbook w/ limited resources) for Bodhi. Hope I can get wireless running on it or I'll scrap it too

BTW- like your dragon:

Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It is rather active and you find it hard to keep up with.

clicked on your pearl egg. Pretty kewl. Never seen amini-dragon egg before

Egg will die if it doesn't hatch in: 1 day

This tiny egg shines like a pearl.

@Ishikawa I've combined your 3 posts into one ^
we do have an edit button :P

Anyway, I've never used Linux myself.

I'm an avid linux user myself, though I've been working on my own special VR distro called VRILOS which is based on crunchbang which is an open box variant of Debian meaning it's really light weight.

it looks like this: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/94631310/VR%20interface%2C%20loading%20game.png

not complete, still alpha, but I like it.

so far the only real issue I have with linux is compatibility with stuff, mostly games, but I like it none the less, and if anyone want's to try it I highly recommend it, try ubuntu or linux mint, they are good starter distro's

I'm using Ubuntu right now, and love it. Both Unity and Gnome 3 are pretty good. I'm currently using Gnome 3, because Gnome 3 is pretty freaking awesome once you get some good extensions and tweak it up a bit. So much better than Windows 8 for a "modern interface" it's not even funny. At least it works well for me. :P

Personally I've used Mint quite a bit, but due to compatibility issues, it didn't quite work out in the end. But, I would be very much willing to switch to Linux if those various problems had been solved - it's a much better platform IMO.

My server runs Ubuntu Server 14.04 but for desktops, I don't use Linux much.

I haven't used Linux in a while on my desktop. I'd start using it again if I wasn't lazy though. The most recent experience I have with it is on my VPS.

Going to resurrect this thread :P I'm a linux gamer, the linux desktop experience has only gotten better as is the linux gaming experience thanks to proton and the popularity of the steam deck...
Infact windows lost a 3% market share to linux desktop in the last couple years... that's huge.

"Lunix" is a hacker operating system that only communists use to undermine the value of good, hardworking Americans like Bill Gates.

I like Arch, but I have been using Manjaro for simplicity's sake.

I know you're bating me but...

Yes I'm using linux, to emulate an old mac, to run old phone phreaker software, while accessing a BBS separately for ancient-ware.:p

Why don't I just access it from the virtual mac? Because I can scan the stuff first using clamAV.

I've still never used linux in my life.
Give it a try, you can load it on a vm, an old laptop, a flash drive... Hell if you're using an android phone? Congrats you're using Linux.

If you do give it a try, Ubuntu, pop! os, and Linux mint are all very user friendly.

Did anyone make sense of that?

I did. Basically what distro do you use the most, and don't you think there's too many dead ones?
my answer is...
#1 Source mage linux. I may use ubuntu as my daily driver because of it's ease of configuration... but I really like source mage because all software is compiled rather than binaries installed.

#2 no, because it's the nature of the beast :P

Is it better than windows?

Well it's less constricting than windows. You won't have everything you do reported back to Microsoft to sell to advertisers.

Also it's less resource intensive than windows. I've found that games often run better In Linux despite the compatibility layer because windows is so heavy as an os.

But better is objective. There's so many different combinations of os, user interface and applications that you can mix and match until you find a setup you like.

I don't really care about that :P

I don't play games on my computer :P

Sounds good :D
