Living with Family vs. Community Residence / Group Home

I'm currently entertaining the idea of living in a community residence / group home vs. living at home with my family.



Currently I live at home with my family. (I'm 23 y.o male, and I live in Long Island, NY, USA)



What would be the pros and cons do you think of each living situation (family vs. CR)?

Never lived in a group home but the idea of it sounds very unappealing to me. I'd rather stay with family.

I wouldnt mind living with others if things got so bad at home (which they have done in the past) and provided I can afford to (havent been able to yet) But for now I live mostly with my dad and its better for me finacially.

I have not yet written a list of the pro and cons for each situation.



And thanks. I'm still debating. I plan to talk to my program counselor about it next week.

Well I finally got the courage to speak to my program counselor today about my wanting to move into a Community Residence, and it's tentative that she may submit an application for me to live in a young adult community residence (I say tentative because I'm unsure if she submitted an application).



She tells me not to worry and we will work out all the kinks when the arise (even mom's concerns).



I'm really glad I brought it up to her, so eventually, I will be living in a community residence.

I found out from my counselor at program today that the application has not been done yet, but she told me that we will start the application process soon.
