Why do people browse as a guest or log-in... Then sit there and read topic after topic but don't bother to reply?

I don't know

I used to browse as a guest before joining a forum. I would read topics and replies just to get a feel for the forum and the members. As to why people log in and just read without posting, I have no clue.

On resource boards and the like, you have to join to see resources but I wouldn't know why anyone would do that at any other type of forum as it makes little sense to lurk around as a member without ever posting.

Oi. There are many reasons why. Some don't have much to say. Some don't feel comfortable with their opinions. Or some really don't care and just like browsing. There is a lot or reasons why. Just because they don't post.. shouldn't you feel grateful that they just visit and check out the forum. =/

I still do that every now and again. Like you said Jazzy, it helps you get a feel of a forum and what the community's like as a whole.

Sometimes i read alot of a forum as a Guest before deciding wheter to join up or not, helps me think if it'll be worth it or not.

I agree with what Pulse and Evil Eye said!

Sometimes I will read on forums but I'll be tired after a long day at work, and not able to think of anything to say. Like Pulse said, there's many reasons for it.

I often read threads but won't reply because I do not have anything to add, or someone has already said what I would have posted.

I'm guilty for reading thread after thread when I'm logged in and not replying.

I only reply to threads that interest me.

I have a member that usually just logs in and views the board, he does post. But maybe once a month, but he makes a bundle of posts.

The good thing is that it says he's there, so the active users list always shows that he was on today as well as myself and anyone else.
