Have you or would you ever meet an online friend in person?

Would you be willing to drive or fly to meet them in another state?

Yes, I’ve met people in person that I first got to know online. One of them was a couple who had also met each other through the same forum I was on.
We met up for coffee, stayed in touch regularly, visited each other’s homes, and often went out for lunch together.
Through that same forum, I also met quite a few others from around the country.
We even organised a couple of group meetups, and the couple I mentioned earlier came along too. Everyone was from different states, but we made it happen, some great memories.

These days, though, things feel a bit different. People, including myself, have changed.
Most of us keep more to ourselves now. I’m not really interested in meetups anymore, a quick chat online is enough for me.
So yes, I’ve met online friends in person before. But now? I probably wouldn’t go out of my way.

I might go meet Cam next year!

I'm actually not going to just meet Cam, we're going to visit my husband's family and Cam just happens to live in that state!

But other than that, YES, I've met online friends before! I started off doing online communities when the local newspaper started a beta dial up online message board. I was one of 200 beta testers. We had focus groups to attend and even a picnic, so we all got to meet each other. I have to say that after talking to a 7 year old little girl and then meeting her in person was very strange. I met her brother and dad too, and they were also members of the community.

Not all people are the same as how they are online and you might click with them on the board, but in person you feel very uncomfortable and awkward. There was one woman my age that I went to lunch with, and it was an awful experience!! But then there were people that I've been friends with since that board started...to this day!!

Apart from that first online community, there was a Christian forum and I met an older gentleman from there who was driving through my town with his granddaughter. So we met at a Visitor Center that always has some special displays to walk through, and we got to talk and my daughter met his granddaughter. We're still friends too but he has health problems, so I don't hear from him often.

Oops I misread it thinking that you two did meet.

I really don't like to meet with too many people from online unless I feel perfectly comfortable with them.
