Two-hundred thousand people applied to participate in a project called Mars One. It’s a private enterprise to establish a permanent human settlement on Mars and film a reality show along the way. The thing is, right now the technology can only get them there.

What did you think of the video?

If they want to go live in a bubble for the rest of their lives then so be it.

^ I'll start a reality TV show about living in this quote box... Anyone interested?

I think it would be pretty cool to watch them journey to mars and set up a colony there. I mean we have always wanted to send some people there, maybe this could be the start of something great. Maybe they will be able to find something there that we so far haven't been able to see with all the rovers and landers they have sent there.

I think it sounds like a fun experiment, its just the part where they are not allowed to ever come back to earth.
Maybe we should send some prison inmates with life sentences up there instead. :P

If that want to make that sacrifice for science then i would say let them. Also i wouldn't prison inmates just because they would have no idea what they were and any real data that might be discovered may not be told to the people because it was lost.

It seems like they're just sending regular people up there anyway, not scientists.

Yea but they aren't criminals. Regular people i think would be better suited because they will know what they need to survive and establish a colony and work together to make things right. They will know what they will need to make it though a long period of time on another planet and do what they can to make sure the colony doesn't die out.

Of course regular people would be better, what I said about the criminals was just a joke.. But ultimately the producers of this reality TV show will make sure the colony stays up & running and doesn't die out. :P

Its late some jokes tend to just float right on by me. But the producers for this show it would be hard for from them to really keep it running. Due to they will be flying though space to another planet, but i guess the show will be about the people everyday life's leading up to launch will be cool. Showing what they doing day to day to get ready to go on this one in a lifetime adventure, and what they are doing to make sure they survive. I am liking this idea more and more. It would be a really fascinating show to watch.

I'm sure there's going to be a whole team of people (television show staff) behind the scenes, behind the cameras living up there too running things.

Oh i am sure of it, but they only really can take care of aspect of filming for the most part while they are up there. As well as doing any other tasks that they may need to do due to the lack of people that will be going on trip.

I'd love to go up there. It sounds incredibly fascinating.

Even if it meant you could never return back to earth?

Tbh my first thought was do these people realize they're going there to make martian babies? Not to be in solitude or getting their statues made in remembrance.. Or is it really that much solitude with a select amount of people that you have no choice in the matter, with limited space and have to get along with them for your ultimate survival. It won't be that easy to just walk out the door to let off steam when the people around you start becoming annoying.

Like it was said above, I hope these people that get to go won't regret it even if things turn out the worst. A trip like that is bound to bring out of people aspects they probably didn't know they had nor could've prepared for.

I really wouldn't count on it.
