MySpace lost 10 million unique users in one month at the start of the year, according to new figures.

The steep decline follows a further round of major redundancies at the start of 2011 and the continued growth of Facebook, which now has 30 million registered users in the UK.

According to the latest comScore figures, MySpace lost 10 million unique users between January and February of this year, going form 73 million to 63 million in a matter of four weeks.

This time last year, when site began the first in a series of major relaunches, MySpace attracted 95 million unique users.

Parent company News Corporation is reportedly still trying to sell off the ailing social network – which had hopes to reinvent itself through its streaming service, MySpace Music and its renewed focus on entertainment content.

At the start of the year Mike Jones, MySpace’s chief executive announced that the company was making 500 staff members redundant and slashing its international operation to a skeleton staff.

A senior digital executive told The Telegraph: “MySpace lost $100 million in the first quarter last year. To get it back on track is going to require a massive investment – one which News Corporation it not prepared to make. It has many other priorities to put its money into. So instead, it needs to keep taking costs out of the business while it's still in its hands.”

In November 2010 Jones admitted to The Telegraph, that MySpace had finished being a social network and direct rival to Facebook.

I never had a MySpace either but that's a lot of users to lose in one month!

I don't blame Myspace users at all. Myspace screwed theirselves over once they started adding all that extra crap and focused on other things other then its users.

They changed around everything and made it more confusing to use.

Took off groups, made it more about Entertainment and Music then about the regular people. And just way too much on there that it causes slow loading.

Well with Twitter and Facebook's popularity and the fact that I've never heard anyone mentioning MySpace in years, I'm not at all suprised

If they'd quit doing constant revamps to their site and getting everyone confused on what's where, they wouldn't be losing this much money or users! That's what's screwing everyone off is the constant updating they do to that site. It's ridiculous, and the #1 reason why I don't use MySpace anymore. I had an account for about a year at one point, but then deleted it, and then deciding I wanted to go there again, I created a new one, and I turn around and the next thing I know there's what feels like ten million updates being done to the place. Flipping ridiculous, and another reason why I prefer Facebook over MySpace. Sure, Facebook does a lot of updates as well, but at least theirs aren't as frequent as MySpace was.

Wow... that's a lot of people leaving MySpace

Bebo is losing its members also but not as many as that, as far as I know!
