I got my pay check from my 2nd job today and I went down to the police impound lot to see if I could find anything good.

I ended up buying a 1998 Ford Contour for $900. Runs great! It only has 98,000 miles on it which is pretty good for a 12 year old car.

It looks like this:

(Except mine is silver)

Its better than my other car which is a 1988 Oldsmobile with rust everywhere and paint coming off all over the outside and a tore-up interior. Hopefully I can sell my old car for like $500 on craigslist. It does run alright, recently passed smog (emissions testing), has current registration/tags.

It has problems: breaks are going out, front windows are messed up and off their tracks, it looks god awful inside and out, the radiator is leaking, windshield is cracked, damage to the outside of the driver side door area.

But it works for now and it has only 126,000 miles on it so it could be restored and driveable for a really long time if someone wants to dump a whole bunch of money into it. Or they could just get a cheap $500 car and drive it til' it quits and get another cheap car. Thats what I do.

Congratulations on your new car!

It's a very nice looking car and I wish you the best of luck selling your old one.

Mine is a Contour Sport I wonder what the word sport means?

I am going to my grandmas house in a bit and I will really get to test it out on those empty country roads.

So how was the drive to grandmas in your new car?

It was good. The car handles really good on turns & it accelerates very quickly. I went from zero to 60 in like a couple seconds.

I like that it has a remote to lock, unlock the doors and trunk.

My brother also hooked up my stereo and the speakers in my new car have some bass!

I'm 99% sure this is the stereo I have: http://mobile.jvc.com/product.jsp?modelId=MODL028622&pathId=54&page=1 (mine looks just like it anyway)

I bought it a couple years go so Im sure there is more fancier stuff out now. But this one lets me plug my MP3 player in and play songs from it, so thats pretty cool. I wasnt able to hook up this stereo in my Oldsmobile because the stock stereo was like part of the car and could not be easily removed. Ive been driving in silence for the past year. Lol

Oh yeah I put for sale signs in my old car's windows. Some lady called about the car today. She said she wanted to buy it, I told her I was going out of town and will be back by 8pm. I called her back, she answered & said WHOS THIS?!?!?! I said This is the guy with the car, you called this morning. and she hung up on me. Oh well

I'll put it on craigslist and maybe an ad in the paper if an ad in the paper doesnt cost too much.

An '88 Oldsmobile; you ain't kiddin'...given the shape it's in and the age, I think it might be time to put 'er down for good.

Yeah, I should junk something and get no money when I can sell a running car to someone for $500 (someone will buy it too).. Hmmm, what to do what to do.

That's great that your brother hooked up the stereo and speakers for you. The stereo looks nice and am glad you finally got to use it. It would drive me nuts not having a source of music in my car. Glad also that your new car drives well and that you're happy with it. Bet your daughter likes it too!

I hate selling cars but I'm sure someone will buy it for $500. It's just a hard time of year right now to sell due to the holidays but who knows, maybe someone will buy it as a starter car for their kid. Good luck selling it and all those extra hours you worked sure paid off!

...the if someone wants to dump a whole bunch of money into it, is a big if. You could see if either a charity would take it (tax write-off, no direct money, but helps later) or someone might want some scrap off of it, and you could get some money up front. Otherwise, I can't imagine a very flattering listing on craigslist, or the local auto. dealer mags. Good luck, I don't wish ya' any ill-will, but the task sounds daunting.

Thats what just happened. A lady came looking at the car for her son. They took it for a drive (I went with them of course), she said the car runs real good and she is interested in buying it but she needs to go talk to her husband..

Ive also got a couple other calls too.. Someone is coming to look at it in a half hour. That 1st lady better call me back soon if she wants it.

Wait... you sell something while it's still working?

Congrats!

If it wasnt working, I'd sell it to the auto wrecking yard for like $150. Ive done that before too.

Looks nice!

Love the black glossy look, but I've always thought black cars look the best. For $900, you definitely scored a bargain on this one. Are those tinted windows?

If you look under the picture Nebulous posted, he says his car is silver he was just using the image to show you the type of car he bought.

I probably should of read the post instead of glancing over it. Either way, for $900, you bought a bargain. I'm surprised it didn't have more mileage. Normally expect more mileage with older cars, but that's surprisingly low. Good purchase!

It was $900 because it was at a police impound lot, all cars their are cheap because they just want to get rid of them. Those are the cars that are confiscated from the bad guys.

I looked up the blue book on the car and its like $2300 so I got it for more than half off basically.

Also the pic is not of MY car, its the same car I have, just a different color. And yes my car does have tinted windows.
