passed a bill that no one likes because it's Illegal and the people are realizing that being forced to pay something or have to go to jail is nonsense

First of all, what part of the constitution makes you say that this is illegal?

Second, if it is illegal, why aren't you bitching about mandatory auto liability insurance?

Driving is optional?

Ok, let's say you don't have a car. The friend who gives you a ride has insurance.

If you take a bus, the transit agency has to have insurance.

If you take a train, the rail operator must have insurance.

If you fly, the airline must have insurance.

Are you just going to walk everywhere?

Conservatives are always first in line to jump up and demonize free-riders. Why do you think that taxpayers should have to pay for the the healthcare of the uninsured?

There are two ways to solve it: the current way which sucks or a single payer system which is much better and smarter.

Motorists are already required to carry auto insurance in Texas, the new health care bill requires that every American carry health insurance, and now there's a new mandate in the works---dog insurance.

State Rep. Ruth Jones McClendon (D-San Antonio) has introduced a bill that would require any Texan who owns a male dog which weighs 20 pounds or more and is not neutered to have an insurance policy covering injuries or damage caused by that dog when it is off the leash or out of the dog's yard, 1200 WOAI's Michael Board reports.

Can just one member stay on topic and address this bill that has been introduced?

So, dog insurance is stupid yet making people buy health insurance or face jail is acceptable?

Face jail? Link me.

And yes, the two are vastly vastly different.

The same reason why the Health Care Bill is getting shot down left and right...

AMEN!! This is America, the land of the free.

The mid-term elections proved how much we still believe in freedom. And WANT IT.

Here's the law: http://www.capitol.state.tx.us/tlodocs/82R/billtext/pdf/HB00998I.pdf#navpanes=0

Violations would be a class B misdemeanor which isn't usually eligible for prison time unless there are other outstanding charges, like you beat up the cop who was trying to give you a ticket for not having your dog insurance.

And quickly, year upon year of not paying the fine or penalty would lead to harsher punishment, via the IRS. That's where jail kicks in.

So you don't buy a product and you end up in jail? How socialist!

So you don't buy a product and you end up in jail? How socialist!

You have to be kidding right?

How the hell is that socialist in any way..

Dictionary's definition of socialism:

An economic system in which the production and distribution of goods are controlled substantially by the government rather than by private enterprise, and in which cooperation rather than competition guides economic activity. There are many varieties of socialism. Some socialists tolerate capitalism, as long as the government maintains the dominant influence over the economy; others insist on an abolition of private enterprise. All communists are socialists, but not all socialists are communists.

I don't see how that relates to a health care mandate.

and in which cooperation rather than competition guides economic activity

Not the case with the health insurance industry. The government is simply mandating a participation in that market.

An economic system in which the production and distribution of goods are controlled substantially by the government

This is simply not true for health care in America. (Although I do believe it should be).

.. ... .... ..... and this loser is a Republican.

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. • An Illinois lawmaker says parents who have obese children should lose their state tax deduction.

It's the parents' responsibility that have obese kids, said state Sen. Shane Cultra, R-Onarga. Take the tax deduction away for parents that have obese kids.

Cultra has not introduced legislation to deny parents the $2,000 standard tax deduction, but he floated the idea Tuesday, when lawmakers took a shot at solving the state's obesity epidemic.

Oh, but have no fear, the Dems are just as ... .... whatever

TUCSON, Arizona (Reuters) - A long-simmering movement by liberal stalwarts in southern Arizona to break away from the rest of the largely conservative state is at a boiling point as secession backers press to bring their longshot ambition to the forefront of Arizona politics.

A group of lawyers from the Democratic stronghold of Tucson and surrounding Pima County have launched a petition drive seeking support for a November 2012 ballot question on whether the 48th state should be divided in two.
