From what I've seen, the fringe is becoming the norm in the various elected bodies at almost every level.

Let me know when Arizona is officially split into two states and when the IRS is coming to weigh your children to determine whether you get a tax credit.

Then I will be up in arms with you.

Thank you, but by then it will be too late.

Remember the old saw that went around after Germany's dark times...

First they came for the communists,

and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a communist.

Then they came for the trade unionists,

and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews,

and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Jew.

Then they came for me

and there was no one left to speak out for me.

-attributed to German minister Martin Niemöller (1892–1984)

Except you have provided no evidence of how this becoming a norm more than any other fringe minority.

I would stand up for each one of those groups.

One congressman proposing a split of Arizona into two states is so completely incomparable to the nazi party exterminating jews.

Why won't you stand up for gays?

You seem to have missed at least part of the point.

Reasonable people need to speak out now. When the social engineers and do-gooders start weighing children, it will already be too late to speak out.

To your other statement...

In the SS, today, we still have about one case of homosexuality a month. In a whole year, about eight to ten cases occur in the entire SS. I have now decided upon the following: in each case, these people will naturally be publicly degraded, expelled, and handed over to the courts. Following completion of the punishment imposed by the court, they will be sent, by my order, to a concentration camp, and they will be shot in the concentration camp, while attempting to escape. I will make that known by order to the unit to which the person so infected belonged. Thereby, I hope finally to have done with persons of this type in the SS, and the increasingly healthy blood which we are cultivating for Germany, will be kept pure.

Himmler

Reichsführer-SS, February 18, 1937

And if anybody proposes this treatment for homosexuals, I will speak out.

There is a significant difference between that treatment of them and giving them special rights and preferential treatment.

Nah, I'll just wait untill its more than one person supporting that policy, like maybe 8-9% of representatives. Then it will be to the point where is becomes somewhat slightly feasible that such a proposition might have a small chance at maybe becoming law.

There is a significant difference between that treatment of them and giving them special rights and preferential treatment.

Special treatment? Giving them rights that everyone else has?

The next example I come across of preferential treatment I'll post in here.

It's the same sort of thing that those of various selected racial minorities got bonus points on civil service tests because they were nothing more or less than a minority.

That is preferential treatment. And it is spreading.

Cute... not too surprising.

Dunno how this pertains to the topic at hand. Yes you can find idiots that identify themselves as liberals and yes you can find idiots that identify themselves as conservatives. Idiots are not hard to come by in America. Especially not in spokane (not the best educated city in my home state).

You have to be kidding.

A government mandate doesn't fit the definition you just cited?

Come on, look at it objectively.

BINGO, Doc, Bingo!

Don't say something like that...

Now... I've got nothing against socialism, provided it's done well it is the preferred way (to me). However. I can certainly see how a government mandate to buy something fits that description.

I'm only calling him a troll because he never directly addresses any of my arguments.

And yeah, I can see how that would fit that description, so you could consider it socialist.

Temerit, if anyone is trolling, it's you. But I don't even think that's it exactly. You're simply an angry person and not the first of that type who has crossed my cyber path. As far as I've seen, you're the only poster here on Off Topix who behaves so poorly (so consistently.) I see how you talk to some of the members here and you tried that with me just after I joined. Remember I said I don't play that?

Here's a reminder snippet from November:

Let me tell you a little something about me and how I operate. For the record, I don't engage name-calling, insults and someone telling me what I better or better not believe. Further, your approach doesn't lend itself to a discussion. ..... Perhaps the next time you wish to engage someone in conversation, you don't start off with such direct angst and personal insults. Maybe that works with others, but it never works with me.

Why didn't that sink in? Simply put, I don't play with those who are already foaming at the mouth; I made that clear. You'd do well to remember it.

Finally, your references to me as a he and him are at a grade-school level of trolling.

At least I contribute something to this site

You've engaged in name calling since you got here, you simply use words like socialist and communist to degrade things that you don't agree with regardless of the accuracy of the word and regards of the actual connotation of such words.

I simply call it as I see it. Off Topix is a unique forum in that it swings pretty far to the right, I sometimes feel obligated to be a counterbalance.

If I have ever been rude, it has only been because you were asking for it, by talking down to me in a condescending way, acting like I am incapable of comprehending the most basic of thought processes.

Your degradation of me is just far more subtle, half of the time you just ignore me, which goes to show that you don't believe anything I have to say is of value to you.

Ok...

Now, you're both going to respect each other... or act like you do. You are to stop these personal attacks and just get back on topic and discuss in a somewhat more civil manner.

Or else

I don't really think Off Topix's that far right, Temerit... maybe the American part debating these things, but not Off Topix as a whole. Could just be me

To re-iterate what EE said, can we now get this topic back on topic? Which I believe was about mandatory Pet Care Insurance.

Motorists are already required to carry auto insurance in Texas, the new health care bill requires that every American carry health insurance, and now there's a new mandate in the works---dog insurance.

State Rep. Ruth Jones McClendon (D-San Antonio) has introduced a bill that would require any Texan who owns a male dog which weighs 20 pounds or more and is not neutered to have an insurance policy covering injuries or damage caused by that dog when it is off the leash or out of the dog's yard, 1200 WOAI's Michael Board reports.

Unrestrained un-neutered male dogs over 20 pounds have a higher tendency toward aggression, McClendon said.

My two little dogs weighing in at: Male - 9 lbs and Female - 7 lbs are both covered under my home owners insurance policy. It was free so I decided to add them. I don't see why people would have a problem getting pet insurance policy that would cover any damages/injuries a dog might cause. Do you have dogs? If so, do you have them covered under an insurance policy?

I've been waiting to ask this question, and now seems as good a time as any to ask it.

Social Security's death benefit is only a couple of hundred dollars. Have you ever priced a minimal funeral?

Why not require everybody to buy at least a $10,000 life insurance policy so that when you do assume room temperature you can afford a hole in the ground to drop your mortal remains into.

Health insurance is in case you get sick, you may not, who knows?

Car insurance is in case you exercise the privilege of driving and run into something or somebody.

Pet insurance is if you own a big MALE dog that bites the pizza guy one day.

You ARE going to Die. That is a sure thing.
