Almost four in ten parents think that they are out of touch with the younger generation because they don’t keep up with music and technology, researchers discovered. One in four even admitted they believe that their children see them as “very uncool”.

Their dress sense, owning a “sensible” car and even being a smoker are among the things that make parents feel old-fashioned.

It also emerged that three in ten actually read up on things like celebrities, pop music or social media to keep up with their children or their children's friends.

But eight in ten have resigned themselves to the fact that it is inevitable, believing all children will consider their parents to be uncool at some stage in their lives, most likely when they are at secondary school.

However, three quarters of parents realise it's a phase their son and daughter will soon grow out of, with 85 per cent admitting they viewed their own parents as uncool at some stage when they were younger. And just 15 per cent are worried that their “old-fashioned” behaviour is an embarrassment to their children.

27 29, you can't win!

If you have children, do they think you're cool?
What do you think about your parents?

Lol, well I think my kid thinks I'm cool. She's never told me otherwise.

Yeah, she's pretty blunt. Just like her dad. :P
