Announcement Offtiopix New Look

Good evening, everyone,

I am pleased to announce that we have installed a modern theme to coincide with the Xenforo 2.3 update. This new look comes with many features for everyone to enjoy, some of which are listed below. While there are still a few minor tweaks to complete, we are excited to share it with you. We also have a few new offerings coming soon.

This new design will be the face of Offtopix, but rest assured, the other themes you currently use will still be available and will be updated accordingly. You can select them at the bottom of the screen.

First and foremost, this theme has many user-friendly features that will allow you to customize the site. To access those features, click on the menu in the header as seen in the image below.



This will open another tab called Theme Customization System. From this menu, you can change the site's look and colors, as seen in the image below.




The following image is self-explanatory. You can customize the site's colors and width and toggle between dark and light modes, depending on your preference. Additionally, several settings are available to alter the forum's appearance, allowing you to switch from single-column to dual-column layouts and modify the sidebar a bit.

I just thought I’d share my two cents, not expecting or asking for anything to change, but after using the new look for a day or so , I wanted to give some feedback.

I won’t say much about the new features since I'm always open to updates. Overall, the new design looks great! The only thing I’ve noticed is that the colours can make reading a bit harder, and my eyes get tired quicker. It’s manageable, but one thing stands out , the light colour of new alerts when having dark skin.

From the dark theme to bright alerts feels a bit harsh, and it blurs things for a few seconds. Just to clarify, I’m not complaining, this is just how I’ve experienced it.

Back when I was younger, I didn’t care much about how a forum looked as long as I liked the content. But these days, if something strains my eyes, I tend to visit less. I’ve even stopped visiting certain forums for that reason or not join any that hard to see .

Anyways, great work, I appreciate all the effort that’s gone into it.

I would suggest creating a homepage and moving pinned forum sections and latest posts over there. The top portion should be left vacant except for the forum banner and sidebar.

This will reduce scrolling downwards to reach the content.

That's great feedback, @ElegantAura. I love it. The flashy new alerts button was just a test. However, I was not fond of them myself and wanted to see what others thought. I have now removed them as they did not really fit anyhow. I did tone down the new button next to new posts so it wasn't slapping people in the face, I did leave up the other themes and will update them in case some users would rather just use the other skins, let me know if the adjustment is any better.

I agree. There are too many pinned topics up top, and I will work to reduce those over the next day or so. The page length when reading through a post is too long as well, and it's an easy fix to reduce that as well. As always, I want feedback, and thank you for it.

Update: The page number has been moved back to Xenforo default 20.

The old default theme is still available in the theme selector at the bottom of each page. It appears to have been renamed to “OT 1.0”

Thanks for letting me know, I'm waiting for the app Dev to release an update for 2.3, he has said he's working on it now, it should not be long.
