Have you ever seen someone overreact to what other people say? Perhaps they read something out of context or got the wrong perception of what was being said.. Jumped to conclusions.. Or was just being exaggerating of the situation?

^

I lol'd.

Meet my class. XD

Yeah, I've seen people do it. Done it myself every now and then too.

Ditto.

A little girl said Oh BUGGER today. I was about to say WHAT DID YOU SAY? when her teacher said it before me. I didn't hear what the little girl replied as I had been walking past at the time, but I heard the teacher say Oh, that's alright then in a VERY relieved tone of voice!

Nice replies that have nothing to do with forum discussions.

No, I disagree.

This is a discussion thread as he is asking what people think.

And I replied:

So you can infer that Yes, I misheard the little girl and jumped to the conclusion that she was using bad language (as lots of kids in school do). I was about to yell at her to explain said foul language when her class teacher beat me to it and very loudly and crossly demanded an explanation instead.

The class teacher had also misunderstood the child's words and over-reacted, thinking that a small child was using unacceptable language. So we both over-reacted. We were both about to verbally chastise the child having both thought that she had used bad language. We both had the wrong perception of what was being said. We both assumed we were right in jumping to the wrong conclusion and then we both discovered our misconceptions and discovered that in actual fact it was we who were in the wrong and not the poor child!

Meanwhile, you are laughing and saying we are in the wrong, when we are not, which implies that you misunderstood our answers and got the wrong perception of what was being said and you jumped to the conclusion that we were in error.

I am now using these examples to exaggerate the situation and to point out that in fact we have strictly adhered to the OP's post because we have all given perfect examples of how people can read something out of context or get the wrong perception of what was being said and we have all, in fact, jumped to erroneous conclusions and probably all overreacted to a fairly mild post. Would you agree that this is a correct explanation of the situation whilst also over-exaggerating the importance of the said situation?

maybe they were just mocking or they didn't get the statement that some person made

Exactly. I think the latter explanation is true as I explained in my post above.

Wow, hit me with a wall of text. I just thought it was funny as this thread is located in the Forum Discussions forum. No big deal.

Okay. *Hits Nebulous round the head with a big wall made from text!*

Ya see...no one gets my sense of humour.

I wasn't miffed. I was explaining, in a roundabout way, why we all thought someone else was wrong...when in fact we were all right.
laugh.gif

I thought it was funny, in a very tongue-in-cheek kind of way.

Is it the wry British sense of humour coming to the fore or is it just my sad little mind finding something funny that no body else finds in the least amusing?
