How do you feel about people who are constantly opening new forums and closing their old ones? Do you think that hurts their credibility? Would you stop joining that person's next forum after a while?

I think you need to find an idea and stick with it. I understand why people do it, and I respect that people might feel they need to, but you've got to work the idea you've got until there's no meat left on the bone, so to speak. Push it forward and get as much mileage as possible.

Depends on how much they do it. Sometimes admins will close a forum due to life issues then come back to create a new forum when they get that sorted. I think you can give someone a second or third chance if they come back and seem committed this time around.

However if someone is opening and closing forums over and over again without any legitimate reason for doing so, then I'll probably stop joining their new forums. People don't want to invest their time into something that will be deleted in a week or two.

I tend to not join boards that continuously close their doors and re-open them. I can understand if life issues were to get in the way, but some people seem to take the giving up attitude, and later on the "I can do this" attitude, never deciding on whether they want a successful forum or not. Even though my forum would be considered dead compared to most forums, I keep it open to help those in need and there are a bountiful amount of resources available to those in need of them. It's a hobby to me, for the most part.

I have know people who, at one time, constantly closed their forum and then opened another one..on the same forum provider and it was an exact copy of the one they closed. Baffling

It discourages me from joining their next one. Because I put a lot of time and effort into posting on their forum making new topics and posting to existing ones.

Do you think that hurts their credibility?

Yes. Because a lot of people feel the same way I do. It's unprofessional.

Would you stop joining that person's next forum after a while?

Pretty much. Even if I did join I wouldn't post very much just because they're going to delete it when they get tired of it after a few months.

Even though I have done the same ten years ago, I find it very frustrating nowadays when I see it happen. And it’s happening with one person who is known here.

lol 2 members that I know of are on here starting up forums and want everyone to join. I joined one but am not active on it. I'm still waiting on them to delete it. The other has started up 3 forums and asking people to join and I'm not touching that with a 20 foot pole.

I have seen that before! Every new forum is an exact copy of the last. I have to think mental illness might be involved in that situation.

It baffles me when this happens and the forum is actually doing well, the founder shuts it down and then after a week or two starts a new one very similar to the one they had before. I'll admit, I've done this a few times throughout the past decade. I've been trying my best to work on the forums I have currently, though I am in the process of making another one. (Though this one will probably be merged with a currently existing one...) I've even helped out on a forum where it was literally opened for about a month, and then ultimately shut down.

It is a little baffling. When people do this they are just hurting their credibility more and more each time they do it and if they just stuck with the first one, it would probably would have at least a few members and posts, better than resetting it over and over again.
