Do you only use the private messaging system as a tool to report issues to staff or just to chat with other members? A little of both? Use it for another reason? What should the PM system be mainly used for in your opinion?

I use it for both, but not often.
I use it as a tool to relay important information and have the casual conversation here and there.
I don't think it should be used for anything else though (like advertising, and we have rules against that).

I enjoy the Private Messaging system. To me it's a great way to have private conversations with other members here on Off Topix.
I use it on forums a lot to have private conversations with other members about trivial things you can't really say on the forum itself.

I don't like the fact that admins could look over my messages though so if i'm gonna have an extended conversation I just ask them to PM me at another site

I think if you are on a forum and want to talk about super secret private stuff, you should take that to email. People seem to forget about having the ability to have an email conversation, lol.
I remember one time I was chatting with someone on another forum and I made some not-so-nice comments about the admin, next time I logged in, I noticed my PM abilities were removed and other parts of my account were locked up too. The admin told me that he read what I said and wasn't pleased. ..Oops

I'm not saying it's impossible because it is. All I was trying to point out was that, here at Off Topix, (4 years on the web) we have never done it. I do, however, agree with comments made here. If you even THINK it's possible, take it off the forum and use your email provider.Kirito said:

Yeah, none of the staff strike me as people who'd spend hours sifting through raw data to find the PMs lol. Just wanted to add to the topic that it's possible on every forum where the admins have access to the database, even if there isn't a read all PMs mod for it.
