...wait, what?
(MSN News) Five out of six police officers in the tiny Missouri town of Parma resigned from their positions upon learning that the town had elected its first black female mayor. Incoming Mayor Tyrus Byrd is a Parma native who narrowly defeated a 37-year incumbent. In addition to the police resignations, the city's clerk, attorney, and waste water treatment plant supervisor all left their posts because of Byrd's election.

Local reporters found that many Parma residents' response to the police resignations was essentially, "good riddance." "I think it was pretty dirty the way they all quit without giving her a chance," said Martha Miller, who lives in Parma. "But I don't think they hurt the town any by quitting, because who needs six police for 740 people?"

Thoughts?

This article seems to be implying race here. But yet I see nothing in the article interviewing the people why they might have quite. MSN seems to be stirring up fake racial flames.

I noticed that as well, Liberty...playing devil's advocate here, it begs the question: why did they resign following the election?

So was it because she was female or black, maybe both but then their leader is also not lily white either. So why did they not leave the country then. It becomes a bit old when anything to do with a different race group always seems to have to be headline news. Can people just no get along and look at the big picture.

From another article source:
According to Mayor Randall Ramsey, five out of six police officers resigned this week, effectively immediately.

Mayor Ramsey said the city's attorney, the clerk and the waste water treatment plant supervisor also turned in resignation letters citing "safety concerns."

Mayor Elect, Tyrus Byrd, said she was unaware of the situation and plans to ask questions about the "safety concerns" during Tuesday night's ceremony.

There is not enough information for any of us to form an opinion such as why they all have safety concerns. Just what are those concerns? Race may be a possibility but with that many going at once, I wonder if there are other factors here?

Found this in the comments block at one of the regional TV news stations-

"They resigned the minute they found out Randall didn't get mayor again. They all abandoned the town immediately which shows how much they really cared about the town and its citizens and the real reason they quit is due to something other than "safety issues" Their free ride was just cut off. We have been trying for YEARS to get someone to listen to the citizens about the dealings going on and no one until now wanted to listen. TYUS BYRD WE THANK THE GOOD LORD FOR SENDING YOU TO PARMA. The citizens of Parma are behind you 100% and will work with you to restore OUR town."
