Ever seen a staff member who just seems to always be on a mission to prove & show off the fact that they are the authority figure on the forum?

How do you feel about power hungry staff?

What those power hungry staff seem to forget is that there is millions of forums on the internet. If a member does not like they way they are being treated, they can just move on to the next forum. Power hungry staff = dead forum. Its only a matter of time.

On one forum I was a member of, the whole staff acted like this. All the quality and power posters left this forum (myself included). It's gotten to the point now at this forum they are e-mailing banned members asking them to come back.

I feel they are pathetic. They must lack self-esteem/attention in the RL so, therefore, they make up for it by showing off their authority hiding behind a computer screen. Once a staff member forgets they are a member and are no better than any other member just because they hold a staff position, they need to go.

Emailing members who have been banned asking them to come back? Now THAT is what I call desperate. Wow. If I didn't like a way I was being treated on a forum, I would adjust my profile settings accordingly so that I no longer received any email notifications from that forum at all, and I would log out and not go back to that forum.

I used to go on a forum website and basically most of the staff was like that. It didn't help that they favouritized and all the staff were really close friends so basically if there was a debate or an argument on something they would let you know how powerful they were and ban or suspend you, it was insane, it was like walking on eggshells the whole time.

I think that a lot of people let the power go to their head and I find that it just makes members feel less and less welcome or comfortable on that site and sooner or later they will have no staff. I am moderator on 3 websites and administrator/co-administrator on two websites and I never let the power go to my head. The whole point of a forum website is to interact and socialize with everyone, if you're being power hungry you won't have much of either and the members will stop going on making the boards inactive and boring, so I think that being power hungry only has negative effects and there is no need for it.
