Why are they so gross?

We all have to use them, why dont we all do our part to NOT make a mess of the place?
Where has common decency gone?

Describe your public restroom experiences... What types of places can you find a nice clean one and where could you typically find a nasty disgusting one?

Most of Finlands public restrooms are clean. I've maybe come across one or two gross ones and well, rather didn't use. Libraries restrooms are usually the safest bet and they're free of charge.

I rarely use a public restroom unless it's absolutely necessary. In my area, the ones I have used, are very clean.

It's a whole different story however if you have to use the 'rest area' bathrooms along the highways. These I have found to be so gross that I will pee in the woods before even going inside the bathrooms.

I have never really seen one that is too gross in a restaurant, arena, or anything like that, but whenever I was in high-school, it was terrible. I never used the bathrooms at school unless I absolutely had to. I remember a creative fellow once had the idea to take the time out to put a strip of used toilet paper on each one of the stall doors. That was nice of him.

I work in retail and we are the cleaning crew there in our store, so we have to clean the bathrooms as well. We have found some really very disgusting things for no apparent reason. Just recently, I found a maxi pad soaked in what looked like piss (it could've been Mt. Dew or something like that), but I didn't do anything other than pick it up and toss it in the trash. The toilet bowls get feces and urine in places that seem impossible, and there is toilet paper everywhere at the end of the night. I just have to wonder if these people simply don't care or if they think it's reasonable to leave a public place so disgusting.
