The anniversary of American mystery writer Edgar Allen Poe's birth was Jan 19, and he didn't even get a gift.

Every year since about 1949, someone has left a half bottle of cognac and 3 roses on the writer's grave in the early morning hours of the anniversary of his birth.

This year--no mystery visitor, no roses, no cognac. Speculation has run rampant as to the why of it all. Why did someone start doing it? Why 3 roses? Why a half bottle of cognac? and now, the biggest mystery of all--Why did they stop?

The world may never know.........

Ohh, Poe has a cool grave!

That article constantly says him... no possibility of a woman?

I think the person died, and as to why it's referred to as a man--I think that's just a given. Most people whose gender isn't known are referred to as men.

I think the grave is very cool indeed. And I'm surprised that no one else picked the tradition up. I would have if I had lived around there. It's such a neat mystery.

Maybe someone will next year

Or not... it might be... inappropriate.

If the person that did it died, I wish that whoever it was had left some sort of explanation as to who he was and why he did it.

Maybe that person died.

I was thinking the same thing myself.

It is quite the mystery and I can't see why anyone would do it. I guess we will never know why they did that for all those years.
