Have you been on a forum where they expect you to search the forum before creating a new topic?

Do you care if a new thread on an existing topic is created? Will you merge them or will you allow multiple threads about the same subject?

I've been on a few strict forums where I actually received a warning because I created a topic that was similar to an existing topic. The staff member shouting at me to search before posting....
yeah :bye:

As for OT, I don't expect anyone to search my forum every time they want to create a thread. I am thankful that someone would want to take time out of their day to create a new thread here in the first place. I don't care if there is more than one thread on the same subject. An old thread from 10 years ago is pretty much irrelevant and chances are most of those members arent around anymore to continue the conversation. Better to have a new thread with people who are actually there.

It depends, I think. "What's your favorite color?", for example, doesn't really offer much substance to it. However, if you have a thread about, say, "The Legacy of Martin Scorsese," and it has hundreds-and-hundreds of posts talking about each film in his filmography, of deep, thoughtful discussion, I might prefer that thread be rebirthed rather than being thrown by the wayside simply because it fell out of the spotlight for a couple years.

Yes, a lot of forums I have been on are resource boards that offer forum support, they usually want you to search for your issue before creating a topic about it. I usually use Google over the board's search engine to search for topics relevant to what I'm looking for. I will usually merge topics of the same subject unless they are meant for an individual, like their support or code request thread.

I was but I never check anyways. It's just way too boring to bother myself with such thing. :D
