Here is a short version of the first chapter of my novel. If you like it, I'll continue writing:
Chapter 1
The beginning of the worst
My name is Claire, Claire Larson. I was sitting at my new home, recalling my leave from my hometown Chicago. Yes, I was an Illinois girl, but my parents and siblings were ready for the beaches, and here I was, ready for the snow. I lay on my bed text messaging Arbor, my best friend, who was telling me about how her and Taylor were getting along. Taylor Knight was my boyfriend for two years, ever since I was fourteen, but we both had to split after the move. I donât believe in long distance relationships. Luckily, I wasnât the jealous type at all, so I wasnât really upset about my friends dating my exes (which other girls seem to find strange). Kensington, my sister, and Alex, my brother, walked in on me.
âClaire, are you crying?â asked Kensington. âNo, Iâm not.â âThen why are you still sitting there texting your friends, get over it will you?â My sister has always been rather harsh, so I decided not to fight with her, as I wasnât in the mood to begin a war. I told her to leave me alone, and so she did, along with Alex who walked to his room. A few more hours had passed, and after the clock struck midnight, I decided to fall asleep.
I kept waking up that night, several times it seemed. It had been cold and I had forgotten to shut the window, and since it was stuck, I grabbed a few blankets to keep warm. But that wasnât the only reason I had woken up so much, I was having the strangest dreams too. The first was about me, falling down a black hole, seeing myself with magical powers, and using them to bend the world to my own desire. The second was more of a nightmare, I had met a witch who casted spells on everyone I knew, and these spells resulted in fatal deaths. The third and final nightmare came, and it was about a world, a world so serene and powerful that there seemed to be no violence whatsoever, no reason to escape it. But within minutes, this world decayed rapidly, and went from a wonderland to a pit of fire. These dreams frightened me, and when morning came at 6AM, I was actually glad to be awake and start the first day of school. I had never done well in school, my best subject was English and even then had I only gotten a B-, which sounds good, but if you were to see my report card, youâd know what Iâm talking about. I walked to school that day, and had a long talk with my guidance counselor about my dreams when I got there, she said it was simply fear, and that it meant nothing. Little did I know how very wrong she wasâ¦
Brief description of âSecret Serenityâ: The story of a sixteen year old girl named Claire who discovers she has magical powers. She is also a psychic, and can see the future in her dreams. Claire runs into her abilities after learning that one of her newfound friends in San Francisco is really an evil witch, and that she is destined to stop her.
