Nope; the U.S. military was still booting individuals out for simply being gay (DADT didn't begin until the end of 1993).

I actually signed a paper saying that I wasn't gay.... The don't ask don't tell was still firmly in swing.

I wasn't going to lie about it to get in and DADT didn't officially go into effect until Dec. 1993 it was either be honest about it or lie and I wasn't about to lie in order to enlist.
