It appears people have differing opinions

Have you ever read any of the books? There was so much from the movie taken from the books. That, in our opinion, made the movie hilarious.....

I haven't read any of the books, actually - but I don't think Arthur Conan Doyle could write that many explosions

Well, to each his own, I suppose. The quotes were excellent. My son didn't think he was going to like it when The Woman showed up. But they worked that part out....

I'm trying to think, the stories were more poisonings, gunshots, stabbings, and the like. There were a few fires--but the explosion was a bit over the top. (the story that particular part was taken from had a fire, and a shooting--The Three Garridebs, Watson did get hurt, and that quote about it was worth a wound, it was worth many wounds to hear the depth of affection.....that was an exact quote)

The parts that made it outstanding for me was the stop motion where you were hearing Holmes thoughts...as well as seeing the transformation of Holmes into the one-eyed begger at the carriage.

Those were definite highlights of the movie for me - it's good to know that he thinks before throwing punches. I thought that Holmes' explanation for the mystery was a great, too. (This really should be in another thread

Anyway---

As I said, the explosions were a bit over the top.

There were more sinister ways of disposing of someone in Victorian England.

Holmes used smoke bombs when he wanted to start a fire. (A Scandel in Bohemia comes to mind, where he pretended to set fire to Irene Adler's house)

And another thing I liked, as I said, was the getting into the thought processes of Holmes. In the earlier movies, he'd say something fantastic like that and explain it by an Elementary.....

This did do a much better job at portraying that part of the stories anyway.

I read that Irene Adler was meant to be almost be a female equivalent to Holmes (so, correct me if I'm wrong), but she was almost dimwitted in the movie.
