Dengue Fever.
My defenses were so low.. if it wasn't for the physiological saline, i'd be dead.
Yeah, it was a horrible experience to be honest. The second phase of the fever is even more unpleasant, your whole body hurts and your skin looks like you have tons of fungus. You have to take anti allergic pills.
Most likely Septicemia.. I had an insect bite that went really nasty about 10 years ago, and did the typical guy thing of "it'll be alright!". That was until a nurse at work caught site of it, and demanded that I go to the walk-in centre ?
They said I had borderline Septicemia and put me on a large dose of antibiotics which pretty much knocked me out.

I had that ghastly road accident and if not for the timely care and treatment surely that would have been the cause of my death.
I caught measles when I was five. It was very deadly for me and it seemed like it was almost taking my life because it was very severe . I was rushed to the hospital and many drips and infusions were done to bring me back from the brink.
not something modern medicine could prevent but things we did as kids that coulda killed us but didn't.

It’s wild to think about how many things that are “manageable” today would’ve been a real threat not that long ago. I have asthma, and while mine isn’t severe, if you go back far enough, it absolutely could’ve been a major problem. I don’t think it would’ve guaranteed my death, but I definitely wouldn’t rule it out either. Even a mild flare‑up without inhalers, steroids, or modern emergency care could spiral fast.
We forget how even extremely minor chronic issues used to be life‑altering or life‑ending. A simple infection, a bad allergic reaction, a respiratory condition; things we treat with a quick doctor visit now were once the kind of problems people just hoped they survived. Threads like this are a good reminder of how much we take for granted and how many of us wouldn’t be here without the medical advances we barely think about today, and on top of that, historically poor diets and periods of famine; it’s crazy how many “little” issues could turn deadly.

I have something I could have died from but it has nothing to do with medicine.
As a baby, I was in hospital for a few months. I do not know the exact medical reason, but they certainly kept me alive.
When giving birth, I had to have an emergency caesarean under general anaesthesia because my child was in a frank breech position and the umbilical cord was also wrapped around the neck, which made it a critical situation. If that had happened one hundred years ago, probably neither of us would have survived.
