Spending Priorities

In todays struggling economy, what do you think should be the top priorities as far as govt. funded programs?

(such as police, schools, health care, parks & recreation, maintaining public roads, fire departments, animal control, the DMV, social security, etc etc etc etc)



Who should get the most money and where should cuts really be made?

Cuts should be made in government jobs. Also cut government salaries.

schools and hospitals should be first. in Alberta, when the recession hit, the first thing the government cut was school and hospital funding. I mean honestly! all they do is sit around all day and argue. little kids can do that but they don't get thousands of dollars a year for that! the government is full of greedy old men. and one thing I don't get about the Canadian government: why is almost every single Prime Minister old? just because a guy is old doesn't mean he's smart! and lots of other people working in the government is old, too. there aren't any young people involved in just about anything related to the government! I think that's part of the problem with the government. if there were more young people, I think that the government would run better. that's just my personal opinion.

Personally I think schools should get a lot more funding then they do. Our children are our future. I think everyone would want a more well educated future then a dumb screwed up one.

Law Enforcement should get cut back. In my town if someone gets pulled over, chances are 2 or 3 more cops are going to show up to stick their nose in and see whats going on instead of being out there actually patrolling. Motorcycle cops are everywhere just sitting around.. They should go work at mc donalds instead, since they spend most of their time there anyways.

In any govt funded programs, I think they highest paid should have salary cuts before the people on the bottom lose their jobs. Or that money could save other things from being cut.

Example: Why does a superintendent of a school district need to make $200,000 a year? He could survive just fine on half or more of that.. With the extra money saved, that money could be put back into keeping a sports or music program running or save a school from being shut down.

they make that much money? oh my gosh... that is so stupid! but of course, it's the people with all these high-paying jobs who decide what is cut and where and when. they usually say oh, gee, I make $200,000 a year. let's stop paying me this much and give it to the baand teacher or whatever. people are pretty greedy.
