Time to get your green on!​

To celebrate Saint Patrick's Day, we are holding an avatar contest!

If you'd like to participate, your avatar must contain the color green. Your avatar doesn't necessarily have to be St. Patrick's Day related, it just needs to have green in it. However, if you do upload an avatar that actually is related to St. Patrick's day and it doesn't contain the color green, it will be accepted and allowed to enter the contest.

The deadline to change your avatar is Wednesday, March 12th. There will be a brief voting period to decide the winner. The winner will be announced on St. Patrick’s Day, Monday, March 17th.

The winner will receive the

avatar award, $500 Off Topix Bucks and 2 rep points.

And at least in this one case, the tradition does have some roots in history.

Patrick did use the Shamrock in his sermons as he traveled through Ireland to explain the Holy Trinity.

Shamrocks, are Green, at least on this planet.

So, while most people are happily ignorant of the Saint's larger life and work, they do realize that he had something to do with Eire and the trappings associated with it.

Now, as to whether or not he ever turned a river green is another matter.
